Madame Sybelle was once the owner and proprietress of Sybelle’s Saloon, a successful cathouse. That changed the night Seamus came calling. Now Sybelle and her girls are the decaying servants of a maniacal killer. Even in death, Sybelle retains some of her poise, ordering her girls about and keeping an eye on them when Seamus isn’t around.
Sybelle is fantastic in any list that includes other Belles (Rotten Belles or Dead Doxies) as she boosts their Wk and can call them to her. She can also disrupt the enemy by forcing them to attack her with her “Attend to Personally” action or control their actions with the Trigger on her “Bleeding Tongue” upgrade. Like most Resurrectionist models, she is highly resilient, and she also packs one of the few shooting attacks in the faction.
Sebastian is Dr. McMourning’s morgue assistant. While his job title may not be very impressive, few people would be able to handle the odd hours or manual labor, not to mention the excessive gore and screaming. Yet Sebastian always completes his work with a smile, whether it’s cleaning the glassware or dismembering some unspeakable monstrosity using only a bone saw and raw determination.
Sebastian is one of the cheaper Henchmen, and, in the proper crew, he is worth it for the “Catalyst” and “Induction” abilities alone. “Induction” causes the Poison Condition to deal more damage, and “Catalyst” causes models to suffer Poison damage more often. Any crew that has lots of ways to hand out Poison should strongly consider Sebastian. On top of that, he also provides cover from shooting attacks and deals decent damage for his cost.
Say what else you want about Mortimer, he gets the job done. He may be dirty, crass, and loud, but the man can put a corpse in the ground (or take one back out) faster than anyone. Considering the dangers of Malifaux, a fast shovel is a good skill to have on hand... and nobody has more use for a man who is fast with a shovel than Mortimer’s employer, Nicodem. After all, those corpses aren’t going to raise themselves.
Mortimer’s durability coupled with his “Chatty” ability, which prevents enemies from Interacting near him, makes him a great model for disrupting enemy Schemes and Strategies. He also packs an array of useful tools, including a high melee value, an action to spread Poison at range, an action to Push undead, and the ability to create new corpse markers. Mortimer is a toolbox many Resurrectionists can use effectively.
Toshiro was the head of the Katanaka clan when the violence and depravity of the clan drove some of their forces to rebel. Toshiro held steadfast on the battlefield but was eventually slain by the traitors and left to rot in the sun. Yan Lo led his spirit back from the afterlife and reunited it with his crumbling body so he might once again call his long-dead army to him.
Toshiro is a melee model who is excellent at supporting Minions. He gives all friendly nearby Minions bonuses to attack, and he may take a free action to give nearby Minions either the Focused or Fast Condition. His Ancestral Katana is a great attack action with bonuses to hit and decent Triggers. Finally, he can take the “Command The Graves” upgrade to summon Ashigaru or Komainu. Summoning models at the proper time can win games, making Toshiro an amazing choice on many occasions. Toshiro is an excellent addition to any Minion-focused list; he works particularly well with Yan Lo.
At one time Datsue Ba stalked the river Sanzu, acting as the judge of souls from the Three Kingdoms. Since then she has been drawn to a strong presence of judgment and vengeance – Kirai Ankoku. Datsue Ba still acts as a judge, but frequently her victims are still alive as she flays them and weighs their sin. The guilty spend an eternity in her Soulstone lantern, and the innocent are doomed to wander Malifaux as lost spirits.
Datsue Ba is one of the few non-Master models who can reliably summon other models onto the table. After killing an enemy with her “Weigh Sins” action, she can summon a Gaki or an Onryo; extra models are always powerful. She also has decent melee that ignores Armor, and she can move other friendly Spirits. She is good in any Spirit-focused crew, particularly Molly or Kirai, as she flays her opponents alive and uses their own deaths against them.
Philip was one of the first humans to experience Kythera, though the experience drove him mad. He was later killed by Lilith to silence his secrets, only to be brought back by Seamus as an animated head. Since then he has grown more coherent and has been entrusted to Molly’s care. Now he is frequently pushed in a pram by one of Molly’s undead as he chatters endlessly.
Philip is good at placing friendly Scheme Markers and discarding enemy Scheme Markers, which makes him great at scoring VP if the game’s objectives are right. He can also discard a friendly Scheme Marker to draw cards and even prevent enemies from Interacting with his “Chatty” ability. Philip is a utility model; he can always get his crew whatever they need, be it cards, Scheme Markers, or corpses.
Somewhere beneath Malifaux city lies the so-called University of Transmortis. In truth, it’s part of the archaic sewer system, and it’s there that Professor Von Schtook holds his terrifying lessons on resurrection. At the head of the class is The Valedictorian; an expert in all of Schtook’s teachings, she heads the school’s recruitment drives with her razor-sharp talons.
With Wk 6 and Flight, the Valedictorian is an incredibly mobile model. She also comes equipped with an amazing melee attack that has a wide range, allowing her to engage multiple enemies. Finally, she can use her “Lecture Notes” action to prevent enemy models from using Triggers, which is good for shutting down defensive abilities so she can tear the target apart. This is a high cost model that excels at speed and close combat.
