[OLD/ClOSED] Wyrd Painting Contest: Rules and Info

WYRD PAINTING CONTEST RULES AND INFO

Every contest needs rules and this one is no different! Pay attention please as we don't want any hard feelings or disqualifications due to rule bending/breaking. If you have a question, ASK!

In order to participate in the contest you must create an account on the Wyrd Miniatures website in order to submit an entry and to vote in the polls which will decide the winners of the contest. You are encouraged to enjoy the forums and participate, but it is NOT required in any fashion in order to enjoy the Wyrd Painting Contest.

When participating in the competition, you must submit a miniature that is in line with the current THEME that is being hosted. There will be several themes throughout the year so if one theme doesn't catch your interest, perhaps the next one will.

The work must be yours alone, no passing off of someone elses work as your own. You CAN submit a miniature that someone else has converted or sculpted for you though - just not painted, based .. etc.

You are allowed to submit MULTIPLE entries to the contest. As many as you can paint, you can submit though you can only place once per category (you can win in multiple categories, just once per category). Please, when submitting though, indicate which categories you are submitting for as well as the manufacturer and name of the miniature. Each miniature can only be in ONE category for the competition. I reserve the right to place a miniature in the proper category if it is not stated or is 'misplaced'.

The miniature can be from any manufacturer, or a custom miniature you have created yourself as long as it lies within the current theme. Conversions are allowed and encouraged.

The miniature cannot have been displayed in any form elsewhere on the internet or published mediums such as magazines. All contest entries will be displayed anonymously so as to give no one person an unfair advantage (this isn't a popularity contest) and thus there can be no signatures or watermarks upon them. No announcing on forums, webpage, blogs or any other type of medium about the type of miniature that you will be painting, nor concept sketches.

The categories for the contest will likely change from theme to theme as well as the possible number of categories should the subject matter allow for it.

When photographing and editing your pictures, please submit them in .JPG (JPEG) format, with a file size of no larger than 300k. Photographs can be no larger than 800 pixels wide. I'm not much worried about length as it will allow you to fit in angles of the photograph. If you send me a photograph that doesn't fall within the limits prescribed above, I will ask that you fix this as otherwise your entry will not be accepted.

Miniatures can be submitted any time during the contest though none will be showcased till the day after the final submissions date. Submissions will be accepted up till Midnight, EASTERN U.S. time, on the closing date of the currently running contest. Submissions after the cut off date will NOT be accepted, no exceptions.

In order to submit an entry for the contest, go to the current contest gallery and upload your entry. As the gallery is set for moderation, your submission will NOT show up immediately but will instead wait for me to review and edit accordingly. When submitting your contest entry, please take the time to describe the miniature and its manufacturer as well as any other contest notes you wish me to review before editing.

    ::- Direct Gallery Link - ::

At the closing date of the contest, the submissions will be published to the proper contest gallery, anonymously, and the voting will begin.

In order to vote, you must be a registered member of the website.

A poll with your choice of winners will be presented to you where you select your favorites, one poll for each category. While viewing the contest submissions in the gallery, you will be allowed to leave comments and critique on the entry. Please try to be constructive with these comments, as they will be published publically once the voting is completed!

Voting will be open for seven days immediately after polls are posted for the contest.

Winners of each category will receive prizes and random entrants will be selected for the 'Random Schmuck' prize. Please, do not request a particular item, as that is the quickest way to not receive it.

Should there be any questions, or if anything is unclear, PLEASE take the time to ask in the forums as that is the quickest way to receive clarification on a subject as well as bring it to the attention of others.

    EDIT
Here is a direct link on how you UPLOAD to the contest gallery. Obviously the contest and the sections will change from theme to theme but this will get the point across rather nicely.

    base and diorama size

    Hello,

What is the maximum size of the diorama for the duel category ?

Are there any requirements concerning the size of the base for single miniatures in any category ?

Even if it is not a duel, can we present a diorama with more than one miniature in the other categories ?

Is there a limited number of entries for one competitor ?

    Many thanks

    Eric

Hi there, and welcome to the Wyrd.

Some of your questions may have been answered in another thread which I'll post below, the others are new and I'll go ahead and answer them here - thanks for taking the time to ask.

    http://wyrd-games.net/showthread.php?t=454

What is the maximum size of the diorama for the duel category?

There is no maximum size - if you want to work out a complete battle scene with thirty miniatures that span the length of a table, feel free to do so, the same goes for having it all done on a 30mm base (though that would be a bit harder to do). The only requirement is that when you take pictures that the picture width be no more than 800 pixels wide, though it can be as long as you want (stack the pictures on top of one another - see the gallery for examples). And of course not exceed 250k in size.

Are there any requirements concerning the size of the base for single miniatures in any category?

Nope! Make the base as large or as small as you feel the need to. Some of our past contestants have used bases that easily outclass the miniature in size and do so to tell a story or to set a proper atmosphere. Show off your talents in the best manner that you feel is appropriate.

Even if it is not a duel, can we present a diorama with more than one miniature in the other categories?

Yup. The DD (Deadly Duel) category is mainly for doing a diorama of two or more miniatures battling it out, but at the same time, someone may have a different take on something which will surprise you (Klutes Domination entry for Total Testosterone for instance) which although no weapons are being flung around, you can sort of see a battle of wills going on.

At the same time, if you wish to enter another category with two or more miniatures on the same base, for instance, a drunk Dwarven noble in a tavern with a serving wench, then that is perfectly acceptable. Some folks will also give their sorcerers, etc, familiars, which is completely acceptable.

Is there a limited number of entries for one competitor?

None at all. We routinely have multiple entries from some of our contestants. Enter as many times as you like.

    And while I'm at it:

can I enter this contest even though I paint for XXX (company)?

Yes, even if you are a 'professional' painter and you do studio work for a miniature company, even one that is supporting the contest, you are more than welcome to join the fun and paint something up to enter. Own the company and want to enter - yeah, that's fine too. Just, like everything, keep your entry anonymous and follow the rules.

Hi Tracy. Nope, not a waste of time.

Miniatures can be as big or as small as you want. There are 15mm miniatures out there that folks have been interested in playing with before, as well as large model kits. Personally, don't care the sizes involved, though if it gets to be a big enough thing down the road, perhaps it'll get its own category. Till then, we lump them all into the proper categories.
