Resist Casting with Friendly model - choose to tie?

On page 46 of 1.5 it states clearly that friendly models must resist spells as normal, but that during the final totals can 'choose to tie the casting total and suffer the Spells effect.' It never goes on to mention it anywhere else during the description of the process. I am reading it correctly though right?

All you have to do is say you tie, regardless of the cards and you can be affected by the your friendly spells? Just want to make sure.

    Thanks!

As a note, this is often not all that useful as long as you can cheat the defense down--if you choose to tie, you get two negative flips on damage, whereas if you flip right, or cheat right, you can get a positive flip and possibly cheat damage/healing/whatever higher.

Yeah, sometimes it's totally worth it to cheat up or down (especially down; good place for those aces if you don't have another use for them) to improve your chances (or just outright guarantee, if you're willing to cheat higher tiers of damage) at top end damage effects, particularly those that cause blasts on moderate/severe.

Silly question but say i have a CA of 3 and and my target has a Wp of 7 I flip a black joker to cast (so my total is 3) can my (own) target still can choose to tie even though there result will be 8+ regardless of cards in the deck?

Technically, yes, since a friendly model can always chose to tie. However, what spell could be successfully cast with a Ca total like that?
