Hey-lo!
Stumbled onto this game through someone's Warmachine blog, and boy, am I excited to get a couple of sets together and mess around with some friends! I have previous experience in Warmachine and Warhammer 40k, and already I'm more in love with the much smaller skirmish dynamic. That and the fact the starter sets are much more varied.
I'm already in love with all the factions, save those Guilders, and I especially think the Lord Chompy Bits and Dreamer relationship is hilarious. I want to get started with Collodi, then move to Collette, but mainly, I want to try to get two of my close friends into it. One already likes C. Hoffman, and I'm still trying to convince the other, but I'm sure she'll crack without much pressure.
It's a pleasure to be here, and this is a fine game you people at Wyrd have set up. Looking forward to being part of the community!

Welcome to the forums! If you've got any questions, either snag someone with the cards or the top hat under the avatar, or post in the appropriate section, we're all glad to help someone new to the game! Hope you enjoy your time with it, and that you can bring your friends in on things.

Always good to see more players. One suggestion is to let people know where you are. It makes it easier to find new opponents. Also, as edonil stated, feel free to grab the attention of a henchman (cards) or Staff (Tophat) for questions. In fact, you can probably track down a local henchman in this fashion, which might help with getting into the game.

I actually do have a question. I just read through the rules posted on the Wyrd homepage. I take it that in order to get the full experience, I'd have to buy the rulebook. Am I far off the mark? And are there any differing versions of rulebooks?

There are a couple of different versions. One is the small book that is currently for sale on the website or your LGS. The second will be a Malifaux version 1.5 rule book containing the current rules clarifications and the errata for book one models. Then you have the expansion books of Rising Powers and Twisted Fates which have rules for new minis.

The only one that you really need is the small Rules Manual. The others are nice since they have the fluff and information on all the models, but are not required to play. The rules manual contains all of the rules with the exception of Avatars. (Who's rules are fairly straightforward anyway.)
