We found that the turns you give up to get a few extra models would have been better spent just bringing better models to begin with and using them from the beginning. I'd be very interested if you find the list successful and how you were running it as it never really clicked very well for us.

This has been my experience as well. Summoning better models is far to inconsistent for my tastes to depend on it winning the game most times.

Well in this scenario, you wouldn't be depending on it to win you the game.
If you see your opening hand, and there is literally no way of pulling the Onryo summoning off (such as zero crow cards at all) then just mash the dogs for Body Parts and usual, and keep playing.
You've literally lost nothing for having the opportunity to gain a lot.
