Serious noob question
Hello all,
I have been reading what I can and just wanted to make sure I understand what I need to get started playing.
I understand the models needed and so on, just which book is needed? The online downloadable rule book seems to be missing stuff and diagrams are crossed out. Is the real rule book the same or is this just to get me to buy the book hard copy? (I'd like a digital version honestly, I like my 7" tablet) If I do need to buy a physical book, which one? Seems there are updates and the like, do the newer updates contain the core rules or would I need to bounce between several books to get all the rules?
I will be going to my local gaming store to watch a few games and then probably pick up a crew starter box and rules. (is there a way to ensure the store has the newest version of printed book? Like the v2 on the stat cards?)
Thank you for humoring a noob (I couldn't find my answers on the forum)
Tim

The hardcopy of the online book has all of the 'censored' info in it. It's the most current rules manual available (and yes, it's to make you buy it... support the great guys at Wyrd, they deserve it!) it contains all of the rules you need to play. Sadly there is no digital version available, though I would like to see it. Between that, the v2 cards (which should come with all of the models now) and the living rules/faq on Malifaux.com you should have everything you need/want... except for all the great stories from the other 2 books.

If you want to but a hardcopy it might be worth waiting a few weeks as Rules Manual v1.5 will be out soon.

I love supporting people, I'm just saying put a digital copy up for the same price and I'll buy that!
Something I'd like to see this company do is instead of just putting up a digital PDF of the book (too easy to steal and then annoying to find a good reader that handles the quality of artwork etc etc) is to create an "app" that has the rule book, a fate deck (maybe custom skins available for sale), stat cards that can be interacted with for wounds and so on, along with the ability to update that app for all rule changes and so on.
I'd even be okay for paying for the updates similar to buying a new book or what not. Some updates could be free (like the errata) and then pay for the major ones.
Thank you for the heads up on an incoming book. Is this a complete upgrade? Or a minor update?Last edited by Tim Schmidt; 07-06-2012 at 11:57 AM.

AFAIK it's a replacement of the first OOP book with the original masters/minions in it, but with updated rules (from the rules manual) and the errata built in.
