    Weaver Widow Discussion

I'm curious to know what you guys think of the WW? I'm gonna be running a pretty standard 25 pt aZoraida list of Collidi, 3 Marionettes, a Stitched Together and an Arcane Effigy to get an early aZoraida pop. I was thinking that a WW would put me at 34 for a bigger-sized game at low financial cost. The way I'm imagining it in my head, Collidi does his zip-around like normal but once aZoraida pops and she can generate a crazy amount of cards to feed the Widow. Between the two of them they can pop out two Wicked Dolls a turn and 'port them to Collidi, which leads to all sorts of shenanigans like Wicked Intentions to lock down bigger low Df models and spread poison or claim more objectives. And since Wicked Dolls leave scrap counters when killed, Collidi can bring them back as Marionettes.

But that's just my theory. Has anyone used WW for anything like this, or any other strategies for that matter? Or is she taking up valuable points that I could be using elsewhere?

The WW can turn 1 summon a teddy. Triple obey to generate counters then kill the voodoo doll for the 4th and then (0) the teddy. I think she's a good use of points if the strat warrants it.

how do you triple obey on turn 1?

also, since each scrap counters needs 2 control cards to be discarded, you have to do it without cheating and then either have an arcane effigy in the crew (for a 7th card) or hope to flip the 10+ mask required to summon the teddy. tall order, 3 activations and your entire hand...but possible.

    good call, that'd do it

however, the costs go up a lot - zoraida, collodi and his puppets, doppleganger, widow weaver and arcane effigy comes in at 37 stones....so you'd have to drop the arcane effigy or a marionette to squeeze the list in.

possible indeed - it'd be fun to try it out.

I dont think you need the triple obey though, thinking about it:

zoraida activates, makes a voodoo doll, casts obey on WW to ToN
voodoo doll activates, goes defensive stance and casts obey on WW to ToN
WW activates, uses ToN, attacks and kills voodoo doll for 4th counter - summons teddy with its (0) action.

just depends on being able to flip that high mask if you want a turn 1 teddy.

The doll is slow when summoned so can not use both its activations, so has to only obey

true - forgot that makes the turn 1 even harder to pull off though.

In addition, you end up with a Teddy sitting in your deployment zone with no way to really move him around.

I find the Widow to be very card intensive, requiring a moderate and high mask (7 and 10) plus scrap to get her summon spells to work. Add in the fact she does not move quickly (no extra walk AP) and is only a moderate melee creature and she becomes very situational. I have tried to get her working a couple times with Collodi and Z and she has only been a moderately useful minion at best. At 9ss, I take her in lists where I really just want to play around with the Widow.

I find her best use in games where I know the opponent is headed for my deployment zone, specifically when my opponent has Destroy the Evidence. She can camp out in my deployment zone and fiddle around with making wicked dolls. I rarely find a use to make a teddy, which is again sad because I think that's one of her defining abilities.

Overall, I wish she was a better minion because the one I have is beautifully painted!

I'm still looking at killing gupps to get the most out of her.

But yeah, the Teddy summoning factors heavily into her cost and teddy summoning is not very reliable.

Going Pandora Gupps, weaver, Coreplius is tempting as your models will work once they engage; but going the dreamer route means you can bury all but the teddy and negate the movement issues. Altough you have a 2 ss cache & immune to influence models would be really really bad news.

This is the route i'm hoping to take my Zoraida crew, so i'm hoping the WW isn't as mediocre as people suggest. Maybe taking Kade to slingshot teleport Teddy once he's summoned? An extra 6 ss though :/
