Softscores are a bad system as people can use it for non-game reasons, like to get revenge for being beaten, or to mark someone down for what they perceive to be an OP crew or whatever.

anyway i agree with the great fluff post a few pages back ,to sacrifice your master to prevent the delivery of the message is within the rule but really unfluffy so it is up to each individual to agree before hand not to do it or to do it.

This is at the heart of what makes malifaux a great game. I love the how freeform do your own thing malifaux is. If they took out the kill your own model aspect malifaux would be far less entertaining. And its give and take. If im fighting viks or kirai who can go this goal crazy easy then ya nuke the model. Vs slower masters who its not an auto goal for then ya play it out. I like the tactics that come out of competative malifaux. When i first started the game a lot of it bugged me. Now after learning the way the game flows i find it to be fun. I see how new players struggle to embrace it but the meta of how you not only reach your goal but stop the other guys can be a blast when you step back from the wtfbbq they just droped a ton of ice on the treasure.

The thing is if your opponent is going to do it, you can do it too. If he does it first, you don't look like the bad player for doing it because you didn't do it first. Your opponent forced you into a situation where you had no choice.

If sacing your maser was a purposeful intent to the game, the creators also gave the counter to it in assassinate. Assassinae says as long as the model is not in play at the end of the game, you score point(s).

This is where Assassinate becomes a great scheme when it comes to sacing masters. It may prevent it from happening, the downside is you have to deliver a message than kill the master, not an easy task, especially in a timed game.

Also with this tactic, the person who deployed first must declare if he is announcing any schemes first. When choosing schemes it does not say you have to note if you are choosing to announce them or not. If you go first and announce Assassinate, your opponent is probably sure to announce theirs to get more points as they know to keep their master alive. However if he was to go first, and he announces his schemes (depending on their difficulty to counter), you could keep assassinate hidden and use it as your trump card, or you announce it. When he sacs his master, you do the same. Its now down to a 4-4 point game where you just got 2 points. Countering one of his schemes while completing yours becomes the game. It is much easier to handle 2 objectives than worrying about 6 (delivering a message first, countering your schemes, and completing yours).
