And in all honesty Joel. It'll likely be scrapped with book 4 coming out, so I'm likely to only run it at Toy Soldier and a harrogate event in September.

If a game that isn't designed for tournaments is used in tournaments, then certainly there will be imbalances.
In a competative enviroment such a tournament, some people will take the hardest, easiest combination of models to win with and play them in a certain way to achieve their aim, which is to win.
This will be regardless of fun for the opponent (and I'm talking fun in the game, nothing to do with the actual person and how they relate socially to their opponent)
This will happen with comp or without in my own humble opinion.
The players who want to play in this way will push what they are using to the absolute limit within the comp instead of within the rules of the uncomped game.
So no major difference happens anyway.
The thing I really dislike about comp, is when it starts to disallow people to take the models they want to, especially if said person wasn't going to take them to commit the hardest combos that the comp was written to disallow.
This is when comp really messes up.
I would very much dislike the UK Malifaux tournament scene to turn into what the UK Warhammer tourney scene is at the min.
Anyway that is all just my general view on comp.
On this comp pack specifically.....
It looks OK to me, but I've not been into Malifaux for too long or playing at a highly competative level, so can't really attest to the what's and the whyfore's of the pack.
If you feel the Malifaux tournament scene needs comp, go ahead and run an event with it in.
People will either come to it or not.
As you said, not every event needs to run the pack, it's not like you are the fascist dictator of the UK tournament scene and everyone has to comply with what you put forward.

On my phone so quick reply;
There are no models banned in the pack. You can still take anything you want. Which for me, was important

Are you serious? 4 years to make an obvious change to Skeeters, 2 years to make an obvious change to Stitched together, a "fix" to Nekima which made her as popular as a 13ss paperweight, and STILL no sign of any changes Hamelin desperately needs to balance him out. And don't give me the "they need play testing" line - if Wyrd can PT an entire book in a couple of months, why can't thy PT this? Because PT new book = $$$, PT old book != $$$.
I'm glad to see people starting to take things into their own hands, maybe it'll prompt Wyrd to sort their priorities out. Vive la Revolution.
Dave, if you think Malifaux is fine as it is, why to you make it perfectly obvious that you prefer me not playing Hamelin against you or at your events? You know I think very highly of you, but you can't have it both ways.
Oi Dom! I played Somer and Levi over the weekend too
Because it was the event I started which was the European Team Challenge, the name has stuck from there
It's never "all" about imbalance, but that doesn't mean there is no imbalance.
Firstly Spiku is an awesome player, and in his hands Somer is über bent - especially as NONE of us have played against a crew like that before. Second, let's not forget Calmdown was deliberately playing experimental crews and in his game vs Spiku was running Nicodem (and didn't know about piglets Stampeding lol - he didn't find that as amusing as I did)
We think they have a couple of bent things, but they don't need "fixing". I think the couple of tricks they have are what makes them competitively viable.
Kudos on everything you've done Craig. I might not agree with some of it but I think the more we accept there are issues with this game and that Wyrd aren't going to fix them anytime soon, the better the game can become. And for the record I'm happy to play at a comp event - with a comped crew (ie Hamelin) - to see how this can be refined. Best case it fixes Malifaux, worst case it tips the scales to different Masters and is no worse than what we've got right now.
And for those people (and inevitable fanboys) who think this is a bad idea, don't flame Craig (or Ian in the other thread) - get on to Wyrd to fix their game. If they did, none of this would be needed.Last edited by magicpockets; 06-30-2012 at 03:17 AM.

I like the one SS discount on the first model of a type. Very nice bit of design.

Thankyou Math

And Jisaac, it's for all MY tournaments (I run 2/3 a year), and anyone else that wants to use them.
