Rasputina Vs. The Dreamer. Something is amiss.
Now, today I played my 3rd game vs. the Dreamer and I was playing 'Tina.
As with my other two games vs. him, things went downhill very quickly.
It seems that I am either completely unable to kill off the Dreamer before he gets close, or something I am doing is very, very wrong.
Is it simply that Rasputina is unfit to verse the Dreamer?
He would on every occasion manage to un-bury his entire crew in 'Tina's face, and from there things would get very ugly.
What do?

It's not Tina's easiest matchup, but she can hold her own.
What minions do you both use, generally?

Due to the fact that we're both fairly new to Malifaux we only have a few models we can use.
I have:
3 Gamins
1 Golem
1 Silent One
1 Acolyte
1 Essence of Power
He Has:
1 Coppelius
2 Stitched
1 Teddy
1 Baby Kade
The first two games I felt there was something I'd missed, something I needed to do better next time. Our last game however, I felt as though no matter how I'd tried to counter him there was very little I could do.

From what I can tell (from playing dreamer for all of 3 games) is that he would be a headache to fight against. When I play with him I only have a rough idea of what I am doing, I leave myself options to get the jump on my opponent, using terrain, scenery and ability to fly over or spirit through them.
Trying to bait out model's with trap's can work, but going after the dreamer is tricky unless your opponent over extends, so stay away from strategy's or schemes that require you to take out dreamer/LCB,
Stiched can be annoying due to reactivating, and using their above average WP to gamble your life away. Coppelius hand's out paralyzed like they are candies and Teddy can beat face. All of them have weak defence, though I have no experience of Rasputina so I can't offer too much help there.
Your opponent hasn't got Daydreams, which help make the dreamer even more powerful, increasing the range of unburying and vastly changing the threat range.
Make sure you and your opponent have checked the recent updated character cards, it decreases the threat range of dreamer-into-LCB's jump out attack thing.

Aye, unfortunately daydreams are next on his "to-buy" list.
My main problem is that I am unable to keep the Dreamer from un-burying right in Rasputina's face! Thus my rather nasty December's Curse cannot be cast!
I feel as though I'm bringing a knife to a gun fight here.
EDIT: How on earth is the Teddy equal in price to my golem? Something seems horribly unbalanced there.Last edited by Happy-Yeti; 06-08-2012 at 07:58 PM.

If your opponent insists on dropping his entire crew on you, don't forget that you get an activation to respond before they all get to activate. Liberal usage of Ice Pillars will slow them down a bit and block a few charge lanes. Raspy herself should be able to blast apart a Stitched, and repeated castings of Biting Chill are how I'd deal with Teddy - the spell bypasses his H2W and can wear him down quickly.
As for Chompy himself, since your opponent has no Daydreams, once he emerges the only way he can turn back into Dreamer is by triggering All Done on a strike that damages you, so if you see him flipping a tome, cheat high on defence to leave Chompy stuck. Exposed, he's not very resilient.
The Golem isn't a great piece for his cost, you'll probably want to swap him out for Snowstorm when you're able. That being said, he's a good blocking piece that can slow down the nightmares to let your real offence get a bearing on them. Don't be afraid to shoot him yourself with a Decembers Curse, cheating down his defines so you can ensure severe damage and two blast markers on enemies he's engaging. If he dies, that's another 3Dg to nearby enemies so not the end of the world.

Just a guess, but:
-In most wargames I've played, ranged attacks always come at a premium cost. The Golem has a pretty decent ranged attack that additionally generates blasts for more damage output.
-I think Armor also comes at a premium in this game, despite not being able to be used to completely negate damage from an attack that hit.
These are just thoughts and I could be wrong.

Unfortunately, Dreamer is one of Raspy's toughest matchups. The first thing I would get in the habit of doing is casting the spell for Raspy's Armor boost on herself whenever you can.
You might also try having the Essence of Power use Link onto the Silent One instead of Raspy if the Silent One has a better chance to use her ranged attack.
As noted above, using Biting Chill is typically your best bet. If he does drop his whole crew on top of you, make sure to use Companion and get as many activations as you can before he starts activating his monsters. Try to take out at least one of his big pieces. Typically, I would say to start with Raspy, and use Biting Chill to knock something down as far as possible. As mentioned before, this is hands-down, the best way to deal with Teddy, and in many ways, Chompy too. Also, don't use Ice Mirror through your Gamin if you can avoid it at all. Always have Raspy cast the spells herself, or through a Silent One. Your 7 Ca is your greatest asset. I would definitely try to take a full 8 Soulstones though too. Raspy can really eat through her stones quick, both on casting spells, and on defense.
Lastly....look at getting Snowstorm. His damage output and other abilities will really help in this matchup. You could also consider Von Schill for some Mercenary backup.LED Ice Pillars | WIP: Dreamer | Collodi | Kirai | Dead Justice

Thank you all!
Okay, this has all given me some things to think about!
I like the idea of using companion, but I can't seem to find many 'Tina models that have companion.
I think I've drastically underestimated Biting Chill's usefulness, it shall definitely be the focal point of my next game.
Thank you all!
