Von Schill here, Von Schill there...Von Schill everywhere!

This guy seems to be like the David Hasslehoff (or Chuck Norris...ew) of Malifaux.

He just creeps in out of nowhere in so many threads as the instant solution to one's problem, regardless of factions.

I've never played nor faced him here, so...In your opinion, what specifically makes him so good? Is it to a point he's broken(Hamelin style)?

He's got a big gun, 10 wounds, armor 1, magic resistance 1, nimble, instinctual, slow to die, and use soul stone. He's not broken, but he is very powerful, and everyone can take him.

Plus, he's got a fantastic mustache.

Not just that but bonueses against undead, augmented jump, WP buffs for morale and can remove counters. There are some others as well but i think that's all the important stuff covered.

If he was an auto-include he would be arguably broken, but I think he is 'just' an incredibly points-efficient Jack of All Trades. A man with a particular set of skills

For crews who dont need special forces, he's an insanely good henchman (many abilities) for his points. Hard to catch with a free flying move that removes disengaging strike, can move 15" a turn, close combat that removes armor, very good long range attack, anti blast/pulse armor etc etc. Pretty much Norris on crack.

Only drawback, 10SS, and If he doesnt have soulstone he's going down pretty quick. He required so much attention in my last games against him, that I'm thinking just ignoring him in the future and focus on the rest of the crew.

I see him in so many crews lately that I'm beginning to think he may be a bit too much of an easy answer.

It's a solid choice, a bit too popular for my poor Ramos though

Specifically its the combination of high damage high mobility that von schill represents that makes him so efficient nearly impossible to lock in combat his gun is phenominal wither facing undead or not. And he is surviavible due to slow to die combined with us soulstone. For 10pts hes excellent and hard to pass up nut not an automatic inclusion for all scenarios.

Broken? No. He's as stone hungry as any stone using merc. Versatile and quick? Yes.

Yes, VonSchill is a really solid henchman, so its no surprise that he turns up in alot of crews.

That said, it mainly seems to be resser crews who take Von Schill with particular regularity. The other factions tend to have special forces choices that compete with the Schill and make taking him less of a no-brainer.

So i guess what Im hoping then, is that there are choices in book 4 that will make him less of a no-brainer to those crews who take him with the most regularity.
