Adepticon 2012 Puppet Wars Tournament Results

So, the first tourney for Puppet Wars at Adepticon went okay this year. I wish we had more participants. But the ones we had were stellar. Everyone was laughing and playing nice together like good puppets should. We even had a brand spanking new player enter the tourney. She learned how to play in a demo the night before and signed right up. We even created a last minute new prize catagory. So, without further ado here are the results

    Participants
    Chris Borer (Fullborer): Marcus - 1W/2L, 8 Tears, 15 Sports, 0 Paint
    Savannah Hess (New Person): Lady J - 0W/3L, 9 Tears, 15 Sports, 0 Paint
    Brian Sobb (Tauwolf): Seamus - 3W/0L, 16 Tears, 15 Sports, 55 Paint
Lisa Stankavich (LaFemme Geekita): Pokey Vik - 2W/0L, 8 Tears, 15 Sports, 52 Paint

    Prizes
Grand Champion (Plaque and Nightmare Edition Teddy for Malifaux)- Brian Sobb.
    Most Tears (Plaque)- Brian Sobb
Master Tailor aka Best Painting (Plaque)- Brian Sobb
I Thought This Was A Casual Game aka Best Sport (Plaque)- Savannah Hess

These were all pretty tough to judge. Brian clearly had the win/loss record to pull of Grand Champion. However, Lisa had a 7 activation win, which is pretty impressive.

Tears also was pretty clear. But, our newcomer Savannah clearly has that concept down.

Painting was the toughest. I didn't feel qualified to judge as the paint styles were so similar, I didn't even know what flaws to look for. So, I recruited some Golden Demon and Crystal Brush winners to help me out in the form of Cathy Wappel, Dave Taylor and David Pauwels (THANKS GUYS!!!). It's good to know people . They all admitted it was really close and it came down to Brian's blending being SLIGHTLY smoother. So, next year, Lisa will be taking top prize I'm sure.

Best Sport was the hardest. Everyone was so dang nice and scored each other with top scores. So, it came down to two things. First, Savannah had a 0/3 Win record. Anyone who can smile after that deserves best sport. Second, she just learned how to play the freaking game and signed up for a tournament for crying out loud. That takes some stuffing!

So, the last prize was one that the experienced players donated to. We got fantastic prize support from Wyrd in the form of a Pokey Vik and a set of Teddies as well as the Nightmare Teddy that Brian received. I figured Brian, Lisa and Chris had these already and hated to see them on ebay. So, I asked them before the tourney started and we all agreed that a new prize would be formed....

Welcome to the Toybox aka the Newbie Award (LE Pokey Vik and LE Teddy Set of 5 and 6 resin bases from Full Borer Miniatures): Savannah Hess

Chris also donated a bunch of resin bases that got distributed to people at the con. The bases are fantastic! I will be ordering some soon. Thanks for that Chris!

Well, thanks to everyone who came out. And a big Thanks to Adepticon for arranging those fantastic plaques! They look terrific. I think everyone had a good time...at least they were all smiling in the picture afterwards. Pictured below are from left to right Savannah, Brian, Lisa, Chris, me (Sean).

I hope to make it next year. I was going to go this year, but planned trips to Germany (23 days), Gencon (5 days) and Hawaii (eight days) are going to use up my vacation time. I will be a Kubla Con later this month as well, but I leave on my off-Friday so no vacation time needed.
