First set advice
So if i was only going to get one set to test these out, which would be the best bet? The most versitile or best wow-factor or what have you. Planning on using it for Malifaux, MERCS, and some DnD or other tabletop games.

Hi!
I'd go for Buildings, because with only one set you can build a couple of decent size stand-alone houses which you can then put on your usual grass battlemat and it's neat!
Otherwise if you want to cover a whole gaming table I would buy at least 3 sets (2 buildings and 1 streets or vice versa. I bought one of each set but use the sewers very little usually only to do foundation levels).

MERCS is another miniatures game, focusing on tactics and team support so it sounds like a good match for the buildings set. I've heard one set of clips per terraclips - is there any advantage to getting two clip sets with one terraclips set?

I find so. One box of clips can certainly see you through, but sometimes it feels like you are trying to ration out the clips to such an extent that the process of exploring what you can create can take on a frustrating edge. It is still an extremely great product, and you certainly do not need more than one box of clips per set, but if you can afford it it can make the process even more smooth.
I hope that helps.

Jeremy and I have two sets: streets and sewers. We also have 2 (maybe 3) boxes of clips. We've found that this is a good set up that allows up to have ample choices for a 3x3 table with plenty of clips to not feel like we're rationing them.
My theory is, the more clips, the better. :D As for the types of sets, I would pick which ones you'd like the most. I don't think there are any bad choices. I'll probably end up buying the third set soon anyway.Indy Malifaux Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Arsen...58843317480393
