    A matter of size...

Hello all, new to Malifaux and loving all that I've read (or attempted to read) in the (free) pdf rulebook, but there was a matter of dire import that I need input on... the matter of size.

In the rulebook it states that 1-55ss is a Scrap and 30+ is a Brawl (iirc), but what is the norm per se? What should I organize events and tourneys at? Just the usual questions when first starting out, other than that I'm good. ^_^

30-35 for Scraps is pretty standard and though I wouldn't recommend Brawls for any type of organized event (as they tend to really drag on) 50-60 SS sould be about right.

30ss scraps, in my opinion, are better for a more serious organized play as it forces you to make choices on what to bring to the encounter.

35ss scraps tend to allow you to bring what you want (for the most part) and I would suggest them for a more casual competitive nature. I prefer 35ss games for organized play, because I'm not (and my group isn't really either) on the super competitive side.

30 stones is fun as all get out and very tactically sharp but 30-35 is pretty standard overall. both points levels play great.

Appreciate the feedback guys, and I think 35ss will probably be what I'll go for. ^_^

I'd suggest starting at somewhere below 30, for at least a game or two-- even 30 can be fairly overwhelming for new players.

My wife and I frequently play 25ss games when we're at home on a weeknight. They go faster and you can't just pull out the kitchen sink. It's a nice, light weight match that goes quickly for us.

25 pts would be good for a brand new/escalation league, I think, since most starters or starters + 1 blister are playable at that level. That way folks with less to spend can still participate.

Yeah, my gaming group started at 20ss and have worked our way up to 30/35ss crews. The basic rules of the game are easy enough to get, it is all the models and their rules that slow it down. Also sticking to one faction helps also in the learning.

Definately agree with this. Limiting to 30 SS makes players really have to streamline and focus on what they want their crew to do.

I do recommend caution with events at the lower end of the spectrum though, since it will definately favor some crews (especially those that can easily replace losses).
