Help with Color Choice

Here is a shot of my Lord Chompy Bits.





The colorations are tough to explain unless you have worked with PearlEx pigments.

So far I've primed in Army Painter Matte Black, then undercoated with a suspension medium and the PearlEx Lavender Mist (see his legs). After that I have used the Interference Violet as first highlight, then mixed a small amount of bone white to the mix for the top highlight. It leaves the model with a very purple pink metallic sheen, and on the table top the colors shift and change from Purple to Pink to White and it's nearly impossible to photograph.

I am have trouble figuring out a contrast for the "hard" parts of Chompy, his face, talons, and the spikes that stick out of him.

Anyone have any color suggestions that might work with this? I am stumped.

I don't know that you need stark contrast so much, as the colours are quite spooky (and, in context, effective). Warm palette would be the go, but my inclination would be a 'soft' contrast along the lines of a natural bone/ off white shade for the spikey bits, and do the face as per the main scheme.

I think I agree with this, including painting the face as the rest of the body. Perhaps a blend of the natural bone and the GW Vomit Brown which is an orange/yellow brownish color - yellow being the natural complement to purple it would probably really pop.

I think well painted bone white would be a good contrast. Or you could go nuts and try to do something like this to give the impression that his face is glowing.

I think I agree with this, including painting the face as the rest of the body. Perhaps a blend of the natural bone and the GW Vomit Brown which is an orange/yellow brownish color - yellow being the natural complement to purple it would probably really pop.

I LOVE glow effects, I planned on doing some directional lighted effects on him, but maybe a glow in the eyes and the tummy-mouth.... Hrmmm....

I would be tempted to avoid normal bone. I think you might want to stick with a moonlight palette to keep the nightmare unatural look. You could mix bleached bone into the original purple shade which will give you a really unnatural look to the bone. You could also try mixing in rotten flesh or Valejo grey-green, so it would go start from a purple but the green in the the rotten flesh would detone it gradually towards a more greyish look and then you would get a slight green tint on the edges.

Also an excellent idea. I do like green with purple.

This would come down to personal style really. I usually go for the 'pop' factor with bold, bright complimentary colors where the models really jump off of the table but that's my style. Ratty's idea probably wouldn't have the 'pop' like mine, but there's no question that it would look awesome and perhaps be more 'realistic?' - Ratty's Gaki put the proof to that.

So it's all personal choice. Tough choice in my opinion - good luck.

So I have put the first 2 shades on the "bone" bits.

I used a little of each piece of feedback. I started with a faintly yellow bone shade with a 3 to 1 mix of P3 Mouldy Ochre, and Jack Bone. Then added a little white and started shaing up... once I have this one done I'll post good pics in the showcase forum...
