    The Undertaker

So, I have been living the wonderful world of Malifaux vicariously through a friend for the past few weeks and finally decided to get in on the action.

Immediately fascinated by Mr. Suavey McZombie-pants himself (Nicodem) I wanted to start off with him and his legion of zombie dogs. Which is weird, because I'm terrified by zombies...

I'm 100% new to painting / tabletop gaming in general and tbh, a little bit terrified. So be gentle :3 But any hints or tips will be mega appreciated because I'm pretty much going in blind

Nico arrived on the weekend and I squealed like a school girl and rushed to go buy my first paints.

Anyways, heres my first attempt. I like to think I matched the paint with my play style: Terrible.

So these are my vultures, I accidentally cut off their long necks.. but lets not talk about that.

    The whole gang WiP

Rotty, the twins, and Munster (Yeah I name my models, you'll get used to it)

Close up of one of the twins. He has ominous green zombie goo

    Update: 9th October
Not particularly pleased with the new dogs. I'm struggling with the whole rotting flesh thing (any tips / how to's would be much appreciated!!). Plus I rushed these two this morning. So eager to get painting done before I head out! >.< I may strip them and start again when I have more time :<

    Attempt at a Dalmatian :<

I found the dogs really hard to base because all I had to work with was their grubby uneven paws. I like to think this guy is on a lean because hes fanging round a corner at top speed >.>

The Pug in there isnt finished. I just love his grumpy face :>

    Update: 10th October
I am so ridiculously hung over, but I watched / read all of those awesome links and think I improved a little. Was refreshing to paint a human instead of another mutt. Was really nervous about painting faces :o

    Update:15th October
Totally haven't been motivated at all this week, which I guess is my biggest downfall when it comes to the quality of the finished product...Plus these punk zombies are my least favourite minis, Its just the way they look. It confuses and enrages me.

uuuuum yeeeeah ... turns out I used the wrong glue on this guy, and I hulked his arm off last night (accidentally). And when I was looking at him and his amputated limb, the look on his face suddenly made sense. It was a mix of "Im so crazy hardcore I just cut off my own arm" and "I immediately regret this decision" So I rolled with it... unfortunately my blood work is terrible, but you get the idea.

the middle zombie is the one I dislike most of all. I think its his breezy tank top, and my horrible choice of colours.

A while ago I brought this sweet illidan figurine, and this background was his box. Mmm arty!

    Update: 20th Oct
I only have Mortimer and Nico left to do, and I wanted to take my time. After hearing people are spending hours NAY! Days! on one model, and im belting them out after an hour or so. I tried a different approach.

Tried my hand at layering, and watering down the paints even more so, etc etc. But I found if I made a mistake it was hard to correct, and only made it worse :< Hence Mortys face looking 10 shades darker than the rest of him. All in all I think I learned a few things ...and I think he turned out ok :3

I did take progressive photos, but the lighting turned out to be terrible :<

    Update: October 27th

Welp. Here he is. I left him til last so I had less chance of ballsing him up. I found Nico wasnt as fun to paint as Mortimer was, I think it was because he had finer details and all sorts of nooks and crannies the brush couldnt get in to. As you can probably tell by now I've been rolling with the scorpion green theme, and felt it was only natural he have hyper green spooky goggles and cane (I choose to think his cane has magical zombie powers)

Again, I buggered up the face details and skin tone. But I like the way his "Yeah ive been standing in the rain in suede, what of it?" coat turned out, but I envisioned the darker green matching a little better

Overall, I'm pleased with my first attempt and a little sad the crew is finished. I found the punk zombies severed limb on the floor the other day and had a bit of a giggle... realising the minis aren't perfect, but I sure did have fun painting them

    Thanks for looking :3

Actually I think the undead critters look really nice. The work you put into the bas has also payed off.

Excellent for being new, I probably wouldn't have guessed you were new if you didn't say it. I'm sure they look good on the table. Lots of beginners skip basing, which is a huge mistake since it adds so much to the model - the fact that you didn't and paid such good attention to details means that you are well ahead of the curve.

    Looking forward to more.

    Happy Painting,

Yeah, looks pretty good. Certainly leagues better than my first models.

I do like the shorter necks on the vultures too. Hadn't thought of that at all.

I love the green eyes! I've been looking for a way to make my zombies look creepier, and that does the trick. I like the shorter necks as well.
