I use basic Krylon indoor/outdoor grey primer. Works great for me......and after over a hundred commission models.....I've never had any complaints. My colors are very bright and bold. A lot of that...

Test them first on something you don't care if you ruin. Spray paint does go bad after a while. Either way, I'd shake them for probably 10 minutes...it will have seriously separated.
