Hi all,

I'm interested in starting Malifaux. However, my playgroup likes to try games out before commiting to them (As it should be) and with M2E looming around the horizon, I want to know what the best place is to start the game and how to playtest the game (no Hechmen in the area I am in, so that rules that option out)

So, should I get the Beta rules and some beta crews in order to start the game or should I use the old quickstart rules. Also, do the old crew compositon (boxes) still apply in M2E?

Thanks,

Hello,

Hello,

I’ve been lurking around the Malifaux game sphere for a while, still tittering back and forth whether to jump into the Malifaux world or not. I’m hoping to get honest feedback from existing players on why some people like Malifaux and others do not.

Understandably the best way to find out the game and person is a good pair is to try the game out, however, my current situation is that I have only enough time and resources to get involved in one miniature game right now, so I want to make as best educated guess as possible.

Here’s a little about my gaming preferences. I like some amount of competitive play, but more so, like games where the stories unfold, quirkier the better. For example, when playing GW back in the dark ages, I used to love the old time GW Ork weirdboys accidentally blowing up their own heads and taking half the army with it or vomiting across the battlefield. I also like games that are action packed, rather than games that are mostly about jockeying into position, only having short action events.

I’ve watched a number of Malifaux games on YouTube, and it seemed like Malifaux involves a lot moving here, moving there, push this, interact with that, which seemed a bit tedious. However, I also watched a You Tube game (from Blue Table Painting) where one player, playing Gremlins, accidentally shot their own master in the back, by a bad flip. Now IMHO that’s quirky, unpredictable, and fun. Does Malifaux have a lot of that quirkiness that I’m not seeing in other videos?

I’ve considered a number of other miniature games. I’m shying away from WarmaHordes because of the army sizes (I prefer a skirmish level game) and it seemed like there was enough unbalance between the different Warcasters/Warlocks that it pushes the game (or nearly guarantees) the game victory to the better caster/warlock. I’m hoping that Malifaux is balanced enough so that the outcome of the game isn’t decided before the first turn is played. How easy is it for underdog masters outwit or outdo the stronger masters?

Lastly in my “research”, I still can’t quite figure out is Malifaux MORE of a battle game or a game about tricking your opponent (via Schemes and Scenerios). Is Malifaux more about battling opponents or about playing tricks to gain victory points or steal victory from the opponent?

Anything else I should be considering when deciding to jump into the Breach or not?

Greatly appreciate all responses.

Hello everyone!

I am new to Malifaux and have finally decided to start playing it once the new edition of the rulebook is released. Until then I will order the minis so they are already fully painted and ready once the rulebook becomes available.

My girlfriend, who is new to miniature games wants to start the game with me. Since I do not want it to be frustrating for her, I would like to know whether these crews would make an okay match-up:

I'd go for Hamelin, as I like the theme and miniatures alot. I am new to Malifaux but have many years of tabletop gaming experience, so I believe that should be managable.
She wants to go for the Victorias, which seem straight-forward enough for a beginner.

Do you think that would work or would that create a very one sided match-up for either of us?

regards

Hi everybody, I'm pretty new to Malifaux and as far as I know, I'm the only malifaux player in Montana. To remedy the situation I've bought 8 boxed sets (2 each from the Resurrectionist, Guild, Neverborn, and Arcanist factions) plus some models that I thought looked cool, for the other people in my wargaming group to play as. I've also got almost all the rulebooks except the Storm of Shadows book and the mini rulebook. As for the faction that I'm going to be playing as, the Resurrectionist's caught my eye because I love undead stuff, in fact, a big deciding factor on whether I start playing a new tabletop wargame or rpg is whether it has an undead faction.

And I just have a couple questions I'd like to ask:
1. Does anyone have any tips for introducing Malifaux to a new group?
2. which is more up to date? The 1.5 rulebook or the rules manual?

Any help would be great, thanks guys!

Got my 1st Starter Box 3 years ago (Bayou Gremlins) just for painting purposes. Now I've decided to expand into the actual game.

Yeah. Bad timing.

Gremlins are finished, Mercenaries box is started, and the Lady J, Perdita, and Sonnia boxes are at some UPS transfer point.

So, do I learn 1.5 then completely scrap that and learn 2.0 in a few months? Do I follow the development of 2.0 as I paint and go straight into it?

AFAIK, there is no active Malifaux gaming near to me. The closest store listed as a seller is Hard Knox Games about 40 miles away. So basically assume I will be completely self-taught.

Thanks for reading!

Just wanted to introduce myself.

I picked up my first crew and got my local club involved with Malifaux, really enjoying my guild gunline. So far my crew consists of Perdita, 2 guild guards, 3 riflemen, a pathfinder, and his traps, I've been joking that I'm playing Mexican Tau. So far I've found that in games with a distinct chokepoint or schemes that force everyone on the table to a single point on the table it's almost too easy to reduce my opponents into bullet riddled pulp. I'm really enjoying the game so far and I'm looking forward to playing at Gencon in a couple of months.

My secondary agenda in registering on here is to try to bring more NYC/Long Island players into our local club solid group of guys, we have 6 tables, 4 more under construction, enough terrain to fill them all three times and we're working on building a new game room in Bellerose Queens, is there a player database on here that I missed?
