Played this matchup last week. We both basically had the starter boxes and I as McMourning got poned big time. The self destructing models was bad but the ability to nulify spells and Hopkins with his anti magic shooting. I couldn't touch em!?

I realize the McM boxed set isn't that competitive, that's what we had, and probably will for a month or so anyway.

Other than that any tips or strategies? Thanks in advance :gurney:

If you are allowed to proxy i would say try and go for some canine remains. Always good to have sebastion and mcmourning cut them into pieces for body parts. Especially early on where you can cast your spells in peace.

Samael is quite the deadly character especially when he is gunning for McMourning. I would try and eliminate him as quickly as possible, having a bunch of canine remains attack him with sebastion would put an end to him quick.

1) The McMourning boxed set is one of the worst in the game, where the sonia box is pretty much fantastically optimized. Make some additions as soon as you can :)

2) Sonia is a guild caster. She thrives on the tears of sorrow that she seems to so easily drive from her enemies. Not to mention that Hopkins is death incarnate.

Can you tell I'm a bit bitter? :) But really, In my opinion, guild is by far the easiest faction to pick up and play at a highly optimal level. Resurectionists, on the other hand, may take just a bit longer. Not as long as other factions, but still. I suggest picking up some of our easier to master models, like Punk Zombies, Canine Remains, or Necropunks. If you want to use the Nurses, definitely go for some canines or necropunks, as their low stone cost definitely makes them awesome for the nurse cruise missile of death.

Now, tactics for Sonia specifically: KILL HOPKINS. He has some of the best ranged damage potential. If he catches you in the wrong spot, he can murder pretty much anything. But, the good news is that he's relatively fragile. Only 4 defense, and not that many bubbles. Oh, and don;t forget that his critical strike is only on his hunting tools, not on his gun. That happened our first play though :)

Also, once you really get the feel for the game, you can really abuse the fact that the Witchlings do damage when they die. You can be crafty with the lure spell from the Belles, and you can really set up some nasty chain reactions. Same works for the Gamin and Golums from the Arcanists.

So, short version, if you're losing to Sonia, just give it a few more games. You'll start to figure out how they work, and you'll do much better. Oh, and getting punk zombies really helps :)

My 25 SS list is
McMourning
Chihuahua totem
Canine Remains
Canine Remains
Canine Remains
Nurse
Nurse
Sebastian

Flesh Construct ready for summoning.

These are all the models I have right now. Come solstice I'll have some more spending cash :)

1st turn tear up a doggy, turn 2 make the construct.

I've been struggling to use Sebastian properly, and to use the nurse effectively. It's pretty simple to make a dog missile. But on the other hand I don't like to sacrifice models cause they don't leave a corpse. The nurse is hard to keep in base contact for attendant or bedside manner. I like her ability to heal all but not so happy with it giving slow, and it's an all action so she has to be in base contact.

It's all too easy to just run up and dissect your opponent to pieces and forget about everyone else.

Next few games I'll probably be testing a proxy Belle and trying to get the most out of Sebastian.
