Nope.

They just have to be placed within the range of the spell and no closer than 1" from any model I believe.

Thats what i though,i wanted to place it next to a treasure counter to stop him claiming it,but because we wasnt sure about it i didnt bother.

Yeah, those flame walls can be very nasty... a great way to block your opponents from reaching an objective or escaping "Inferno"... :D

thats the reason why sonia has them to trap and/or limit an opponents choices. You can use it to clog up access lanes to an objective. OR to make sure he doesn't get away.

Proper use of it forces you to activate The Estimable Ms. Criid early in the turn. Unless, of course, you have her Totem.
