View Full Version : Wyrd at West coast conventions?

So will Wyrd be making it presence felt out here on the west coast this fall or this coming spring?
I know of several conventions coming up
neoncon - First weekend of November in Las Vegas (http://www.neoncon.com)
Orccon - First of 3 conventions in Southern California in the Winter in LA - President's day weekend (http://www.strategicon.net)
others?
Of course I ask about these two since I will be in attendance at both and wondered if Wyrd might be also, or might be convinced to run some events or demos there.
I figure that 2010 is the year of Malifaux right?
<fingers crossed>

I think 2010 will be the year of Malifaux as you said, least we certainly hope so.
We had looked at Neoncon but wasn't sure about the venue and size of it to be honest. Eric himself is posted out that way in CA and we are certainly planning on attending conventions across the US this coming year if the venue seems to be inline with our product (gaming, etc). Just has to be a financially viable fit for us but we certainly are looking into more and more options.
We're looking into having demo'ers and henchmen (and henchgals) get into demoing and tournaments at some of the smaller conventions which we'll be unable to attend as well, hopefully have that sorted here soon.

I'd love to go to PAX, next year, Nathan.

Pax has a good reputation also as a growing concern, as long as they can get over their reputation for having spread the swine flu from this year!!
They actually made the CDC's list this year :(

Well whatever came back with us from Gencon this year sure as hell beat up the Wyrd crew - took all of us better part of 3+ weeks to get over that.

You know, looking at Strategicon (or Orccon I guess?) might be something we'll look into. Let me get squared away this week and remember to poke me on it mid-end of week.

I'm down for Orccon, Robyn. I figured we'd get it shaken out for at least demos if nothing else.

I'd be down with Orccon (seeing as I'm a west coaster).

I have you signed up for two demo events, one on Saturday and one on Sunday for 10am both days.
I have a place holder on the schedule for you, so if you want any changes in the description or the time, let me know!

Wow...I was hoping to get a Maulifaux game demo started at Orc-con.
On a side note, Robyn, have you demoed the game at your flgs? If you did what would be a good crew(s) to show off Malifaux? Several warmachine guys at the Brea flgs, expressed interest in getting models. Having only read the rules, I would like to demo a game at the store that I go to but don't want scare off the potential converts.

Chris,
I haven't demo'd the game yet at my Lgs, while I have purchased about 5 of the box sets, I haven't assembled them yet, and I was hoping to get Ketheos scheduled to come over to my LGS and give us all a run through as he is the local expert at this time.
Once I get a run through myself, then I was hoping to schedule more demo days locally at some of the lgs' in the area.
Robyn
Sweet, I should be there too. Ill have my stuff, it will be the weekend right after Temple Con. :)

Hi!
Strategicon is kind of an umbrella for the OrcCon, Gamex and Gateway conventions in LA. I havn't been to them in awhile but seeing that Wyrd is planning (kinda) on coming to OrcCon I'll try and make it next year. :)
To DragonLady: Where is your LGS? I'd like to join in on a demo or two when you start doing them.

I tend to hang out at GMI Games and collectibles in Riverside http://www.gmigames.com (http://www.gmigames.com/). A great store run by Catherine and Rob!!
I have all my box set assembled and they will be primed with the first coats of paints. I am going to the store on the 24th of October with my box sets and will stumble through the rules along with several friends. Anyone who would like to join us, come on down and join us!
I should be there by 1pm on Saturday.

I will be demo-ing Malifaux at Steamcon in Seattle Oct 23-25th. Unfortunately, the con is pretty much sold out, so unless you can get there early Friday to stand in line for the last few tickets available, it's too late. :(

Keltheos,
I'm really looking forward to your two days of demos at Orccon (http://www,stategicon.net (http://www,stategicon.net/)) over Presidents day weekend: February 14th and 15th at the Radisson Hotel/LAX in Los Angeles, CA.
It will be very exciting to have one of Wyrd-Miniatures prime developers at our home town gaming convention.
We have been advertising the event hard, and know that several gamers have emailed us stating that are looking forward to talking/gaming with you!

Glad to hear this, I will be going to ORCCON and I have decided not to join any tournaments so I can soak up the experience with this being my first time. I will be there Friday to Sunday and I really hope to get a demo. If I am lucky, I will have my Pandora's Crew all painted up to use. I hope to meet you guys there.

Ummm...I have some bad news...
Situations beyond my control are going to prevent me from making it to Orccon to run demos. I'm currently looking for someone to take my place, but things don't look good.

Nooooo....I pray to the card of fate that someone will be able to run demos. Will there be a Malifaux Booth or will I purchase from independent retailers?

Kel,
Were you ever able to line up a "replacement kel" for the convention or should I simply cancel the event at this time, we are getting the program book printed up and I have to make the call today.

I just came back from ORCCON and was very disappointed at the lack of presence of Malifaux and Wyrd Miniatures. There were no henchmen to run a demo. Thus, I was not able to learn the game. When the exhibitor room was open, no one had any knowledge of the Malifaux game or even the Wyrd Miniature brand. I eplained to them the game and though they were interested there were no demos to actually show what I just explained. Very very disappointed as the main reason I wanted to attend this convention was to learn Malifaux and meet players in the area. I hope there is a stronger presence planned in the future. In the meantime, I will be looking to other games until there is a strong Malifaux presence in my area.

Any plans to attend Kubla Con here in the SF Bay Area?

Im sorry about your experience Warlord. To my knowledge, ORCCON was going to have a Wyrd presence and then someone had to cancel. I know that there will be a demo or two at the next con in May.
Also if you check-out www.kingdom-con.com (http://www.kingdom-con.com), we will have Malifaux demos and a tournament run by Kevin Clark. We are in San Diego from April 16-18th. I know that we already have about 6 players that are going to play and hopefully more will grow from this event :)

Drangonlady, if you're looking for someone for the next con I'll be up to the task. I've got 2 painted sets and am very familiar with the rules. We'll talk as the next con gets closer.

There will be. We've been adding Henchmen in the area (the Butcher, for one) and as far as ORCCON goes that was my snafu. I had fully intended on being there to run demos and answer questions, but last minute issues came up and I had to cancel. For that I am very sorry. The May con will definitely have a presence, whether it's demos and/or tournaments we'll see. -- Dan

Nuke, im sure if you stop by Genisis Games and Gizmos on a Thursday night, there will be people that would love to give you a demo for Malifaux.

Thanks for the reply. In all honesty, learning Malifaux is the main reason why I went to ORCCON. I got my base rulebook and first crew just for the con. I had hoped to learn the game and get additional crews with plans on applying to become a henchman.
How big a group of people play at GMI? Any chance of schedulng a demo over there on a Saturday? Let me know. Thanks!
