Heh, I got a MSN chat today that asked me to settle an arguement between family on how to pronounce Wyrd. I thought it was pretty funny as I've heard folks say it from all sorts of different ways, from 'weird' to 'word' to 'wired'.

So, just to let you know, this is the proper definition for Wyrd and what I based the name of the site and the company off long ago. I had other ambitions at the time when I created it, but as with all things, life changes, and now we're at 'Wyrd Miniatures'. One of these days I'll have to change the URL about.

Anyhow, here is the all you need for Wyrd and of course the poll to see how you pronounced it!

wyrd (wîrd)

Of, relating to, or suggestive of the preternatural or supernatural.
Of a strikingly odd or unusual character; strange.
Archaic. Of or relating to fate or the Fates.

Well if it's wierd then I had it right from the start :) Well my name ends in an Y which you pronounce as ie... so I naturally think of that... So wierd it is.

I'll have to stick with the fellow midwesterner...Word was how I always thought of it. Maybe it is just our local dialect, Supervike?

You could be onto something there!

How do you say WASHINGTON?

Most people around here say "WARSHINGTON" egads that drives me nuts.

Washington.

:hijacked:

I think we routinely mispronounce sorry though. I work work with a Canadian nurse who thinks we say "sarry". She's right; unfortunately since she is the only one in the department, she gets made fun of for saying "sore-ry".

We now return you to your regularly scheduled discussion.

So if I summarize, we've got a Dutch lady and a French man who naturally pronounce Wyrd correctly but the Americans don’t ??? What world do we live in I ask you :tongue2: ?

I have been saying it 'word'. I figured later it was 'wierd' but 'word' stuck with me so I will continue saying it wrong. :)

I've always said wierd, it just seemed logical considering the creator of the thing.
