Congratulations to each and every one of you! If you see your name above, please send a PM to Frustrated Father (http://wyrd-games.net/private.php?do=newpm&u=1) here on the site and give me your address and all the details that I need for shipping your package or getting your gift certificate to you. Read that last sentence again - PM me, don't e-mail me, PM me. It is how I keep track of information and e-mails are liable to get mixed up amongst the hundred or so I get a day. Even if you think that I already have this information, please send it. It helps me organize things on this end and confirms that your package is sent to your current address. Please be aware that I can not spend a grossly large amount of time in trying to contact folks who do not send their information to me as has been the case multiple times in past contests. If you want your goodies drop me a line.

We at Wyrd Miniatures would like to thank everyone who joined in this contest, from those that entered, left comments, voted or just browsed the entries. Thanks go out to you all and we hope that you enjoyed this round of Wyrd contests and join us for the next one!

Till next time!

You are too modest Bren, you really painted awesome miniatures.

Thanks to all people who voted for me despite poor photos.

Congratualtions to all the winners, and to the winner of the diorama category, where did you find the time?

Congratualtions to all the winners, and to the winner of the diorama category, where did you find the time?

One hour + one hour + one hour.......making the diorama is not the hardest part, it's painting the miniatures (about 4 or 5 hours for a single miniature) and converting them (such as the female elf on the dolphin).

For instance I painted the Sea Elves Diorama just before the end of the contest. At first I wanted to place it on a larger base with 2 more miniatures of small were sharks, and I painted 2 more dolphins too which were supposed to be a maiden's mounts. But due to the lack of time I couldn't.

Congrats to all the winners, entrants, voters and commenters, and thanks to Nathan and gang for another great contest! Does moavoamoatu win a forklift to carry all the other prizes in?! Extra congrats for you just for the number of entries, nevermind the number of wins!

I'm pretty stoked I won something! I painted my entry up for someone who wanted an example of how I do smooth blending, so it didn't really have a contest oriented base or tell a big dramatic story. Though I guess I really have to learn to vote for myself one day, looks like there was only one vote between Avicenna and me. ;->

Wren could you post a tutorial about smooth blending please ?

Congrats to the winners and of course to all who entered, there are many great minis in the galleries!

And thanks to Nathan for organising the contest!

@Wren I'd be interested in that tutorial, too ^^ perhaps I can learn a bit from it.

Very nice entries.

Wren could you post a tutorial about smooth blending please ?

Only if you teach me how to paint one in 5-6 hours! ;-> I suspect the blending thing ties in to the taking sooo long to paint thing...

As it happens, I took a lot of WIP pictures on that piece and have been in the process of editing them up to post a little tutorial. It's mostly just the cloth, my lamp was broken during the skin phase. Some day I hope to do something similar with skin, I've been having a lot of fun experimenting with different tones in shading skin lately. I'd like to get a more permanent photo set-up going, it'd help a lot with taking photos for stuff like that.

<snip> Though I guess I really have to learn to vote for myself one day <snip>

Hmmm....in my opinion I would only vote for myself if I felt there wasn't another mini which could match it, I wouldn't vote for myself just for the sake of voting. It would have to be a strong contender otherwise you are just fooling yourself ;)

03-08-2008, 11:24 PM
Wren's entry was a strong contender, else there would have been a larger gap in the voting between them. She would have been justified in this case. But yes, I agree -- vote honestly, or don't bother to enter.

Seriously, thanks again to Nathan and all involved for running a top-notch comp. Thanks to all participatants, and congrats to the winners. Well done all 'round!

Well, each person has to determine it for themselves. I think I'd be hard pressed to vote for myself (if I managed to actually paint something that was decent, that is)...

BUT, with the caveat of the 'three' votes...and if you think your entry is worthy of being in the top three, I say you are doing yourself a disservice by not checking your own ballot!

Wren
03-09-2008, 12:22 AM
I didn't really mean to start something up on the topic of voting, sorry. :-< I don't vote for my own entries in contests because I wouldn't feel comfortable to do so, and whether that means I'm one vote or thirty behind the winner, that's how it goes!

waghorn41
03-09-2008, 05:28 AM
Like Wren I wouldn't feel comfortable voting for my own entry - if I ever painted something that was actually worthy of entering! My only crit is that there were three votes to place but they were not graded as 1st 2nd 3rd. So the favourite could lose out just by weight of numbers not by preference. Or have I misunderstood? Anyways thanks to Nathan and Wyrd for a remarkable competition, I look forward to the next.

Yup, its all down to numbers, hence why Nathan is so strict about vote rigging etc. Whilst I'm here, I'd maybe like to see a slight change to the rules in that you could only do one entry per category, but could enter every single category if you wanted/were able to. I just think it would even things out a bit more and give more opportunity to people. Spread the wealth so to speak! :D

PS I would feel perfectly justified in voting for myself if it was in the top 3 - I don't tend to overly appraise my own minis and am concientious enough to place my vote elsewhere if another model was better than mine. I try to look objectively for what I think are the best 3 and if mine is in that list, then I'll vote accordingly.

Yeah, I tend to agree. Only one entry per category, but enter all the categories you'd like.

BUT...I think the reason maybe some categories don't get very many entries, so lifting the cap is necessary to have enough. I'm sure as the contest grows, it will be something that should be looked at.

Unbelievably incredible work. 'Makes me want to really make the leap from amateur tabletop painter to something better. Thanks for the inspiration.

I think entering more than one in a category is fine, but only allowing one to place is what I would recommend. eg I will enter Sam, Frodo and Gollum as I can't decide which I like best. The voters like Sam best, so he wins the prize, Frodo and Gollum might get votes to, but aren't up for prizes. Just a thought.

As feedback and admiration/ appreciation mean more to some, and here we get lots of good feedback, I would vote for more entries, less prizes.

OH, congrats to all who entered and moreso to the winners..

Yeah, I tend to agree. Only one entry per category, but enter all the categories you'd like.

Tooshy has opened the Pendora chest..........but I agree, one entry per category could be fine. May be could we have one or two more categories : diorama, weird females (monster, not human or alien), modern era (including 19th, 20th and21st centuries),....just my 2 cents.....

Personally I admit that I had a lot of entries (10 in total, shame on me !!!!) but I had so many ideas that I couldn't stop painting and as I was painting miniatures for the Anima Tactics wargame I just thought it was an oppotunity to present them too....

At least Anima Tactics is a skirmish wargame, just imagine if I was playing Warhammer lol

To be honest I didn't expect to win so many entries (and I don't even know what the prizes are this time).

Hey folks,

Been WAAAAAAAAAAAAY busy but I'm working on putting together prize packages right now and sending them out in the next day or so. Sorry about the delay but we've had a few other things pop up that demanded immediate attention (one of them being my kids).

If you haven't picked up on it in the past, I'll go ahead and let you know now that as I get packages packed and ready to go (or gone), you'll see your name on the list of winners get 'blacked' out. That is just my quick way of making certain everyone gets taken care of and more to the point, lets ya'll know whats moved if you know what to look for.

Oh, and Golden Goblin guy(s) need to get ahold of me so that I can get their package out. They won by default, but winning is winning! Also, last call for those that haven't bothered to read and PM me their addresses (that includes you PaintMinion as we're going to go ahead and award winnings for the category for individual as well as group).

More important - force the DNF-IMMPS to stare at it all night.
