The time for entry submission is over and now we move forward with the viewing and voting for the Femme Fatale III Wyrd Painting Contest.

Entries have been edited, placed in their proper categories and are now up for you to view and leave comments on.

The galleries will be up a full day before opening the polls so that if there are any mistakes or discrepancies, you can let us know before the voting begins. Hopefully there are none, but if you see something that needs to be rectified or if you have a question upon, please contact me privately.

When 24 hours has passed, we'll place the voting polls up and you will be able to vote for your favorite three in their respective categories. Keep in mind, in order to vote and/or comment in the galleries, you MUST have a user account here on Wyrd.

When leaving comments in the galleries, please remember to be constructive in any critique, good or bad, and remember your manners. The moderators and myself will be reading these as we go along - keep it constructive and if it is your own entry that you are commenting on, don't give yourself away over it as it would be a shame to disqualify you for something easily avoided.

When the polls are placed, they will be open for seven days. In that time, please take a moment to vote for your favorite three in each category. The top three in each category will win, respectively 1st place, 2nd place and 3rd place. Best of Show, Best Base or Diorama and Best of Wyrd naturally only have one winner.

In order to encourage participation in the voting and commenting on the galleries, we will choose five RANDOM SCHMUCKS to win prizes for voting on all the categories and commenting on all of the entries.

I'm really disappointed that I was not able to get any entries in for this one (breaks my 2 year streak :( ).

However, there does seem to be a substantial number of entries, and very nice ones at that.

Like Thryth, I wasn't able to get anything in either. I'll start going through the entries and, like usual, try to comment on all of them.

Good luck to everyone that entered!

I'd thought about it but most of my stuff has been seen on the 'net prior to my joining here and the current batch of models wasn't quite finished yet (and still aren't.) However as a non-card carrying Wyrd forumite now I'll make it a point to come up with an entry for any future contests.

Hey folks,

Jim has done a great job of sorting out the gallery and putting up the polls, meaning ya'll have them much quicker than if I had to do them (and cursing and kicking the whole way .. hehe). Big thanks to Jim for that.

Now that we've got the polls up, I see some of ya'll jumping in there and placing your votes already. Great, love to see the enthusiasim and really hope to see the polls and the galleries get blown out with comments and votes.

My one caution, gripe, peeve or the simple thing which brings 'Mr. Ogre' out of me though is folks not reading/looking at the rules. Already I'm going to have to edit every single poll now because some individuals (and its multiple in most cases) don't use us all three of their votes where indicated. You can't go back after clicking 'Vote' and add more, just doesn't work that way.

Also means that I (cause I won't put a moderator through even THAT much torture) have to go through, see who's voted, make certain they've used all their votes, and if not, do some editing to the numbers before its all said and done.

Please, for the sake of my sanity and for those that have to work with me (I can be a real grouch), follow the rules.

Thanks, and best of luck to everyone.

wish I'd got mine in the mix too bit boned but hey ho.. anyways finished commenting on all and some damn fine work on display peeps.. now to carefully consider the votes...

just a quick note on the polls.. don't know how possible it is..but as my memory is going a bit and my computer doesn't like multiple windows open (it's knocking on a bit) would it be at all possible to add the thumbnails onto the polling page as a reminder of what the minis actually are.. I currently have to write them down or else I just plain forget...

Done commenting on them all and done voting.
Yes I did three picks for each poll.

Good Luck to everyone.

Some cool stuff, makes me wish I'd been up to entering. However I decided that it was in the best interests of my sanity to take the month off after Iron Painter and while I have gotten some work done, I wanted absolutely nothing to do with deadlines.

Finished voting and commenting, except for the Club Challenge since my computer just decided to start thinking on it's own. Don't know, I can't use the right mouse button anymore (only on the Wyrd site http://wyrd-games.net/images/icons/icon5.gif very strange). I'll try to complete it tomorrow.

It feels quite odd to comment my own entries, but comment all but my own would be a bit suspicious, right? http://wyrd-games.net/images/icons/icon6.gif

Well, I finally commented and voted on all of the entries. There seems to be more every contest. It's nice to see such a vibrant contest, I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to enter this time around. :(

Hi folks,

Now I don't know why folks feel the need to turn a fun, and friendly contest into something that they feel the need to cheat at, pad votes, or create multiple accounts and act like sock puppets and general jack asses (that last part is my feelings towards these individuals).

I'm always pleased to see interest and activity in the site, registrations and voter and user participation. That having been said, if you create multiple accounts and or get your friends all to sign up on the site and do some mass vote padding for you, I DO notice this.

Whether ya'll believe me or not, I monitor new registrations, IP's, where and what draws interest in the site, etc. It's not because I'm a voyeur in any sense, more that I can see what draws interest and participation to the website (and thus bring more of it) or in times like these, catch folks that are outright cheating on the contests.

I've just banned the IP's of several accounts that have created sock puppet users to pad votes and talk up the pieces. That means they aren't going to be able to read this post, or my gripping, as they aren't even going to be able to access the domain at all unless they follow it up from somewhere else. I hate to do that, but at the same time, hate cheaters even more so.

The votes haven't been changed yet, as that's all going to happen when everything is done (mainly to save me time and effort for folks that cheat, forget to choose their alloted three, etc), but rest assured it'll be done.

I'm considering the next contests to do 'name and shame' along with publication of IP and e-mail addresses along with a general banning from the domain.

Theres always those that will try it on.
Good on ya FF for being a voyuer and picking these thing up.

Maybe you should disqualify the entries, keep them in the gallery but put a big "DISQUALIFIED FOR CHEATING" across the picture.
Then the cheats could agonise about their name being revealed when the names go on the entries.

You could just say that only those who enter can vote? But hey, I'll publically tell everyone my votes if you decide that's what is called for! If I can handle the political discussions in the family these days, I think I can handle public contest voting! We support you, Nathan!

Nathan Caroland
03-03-2008, 09:39 AM
Nah, I don't care that friends who are on the site vote for friends, its going to happen, that doesn't bother me. I know for a fact that a good many of us can look at a piece and even without a name go 'I know who that is' and there are good chances that they might get your vote if you're good buds, etc.

What ticks me off is the blatant use of sock puppets and dummy accounts. In one case, six of them created in the span of five minutes, all with 12345 across the backend of some quick shot hotmail accounts, then logging into the site in rapid succession and voting for one piece in particular ... mind you, they only voted in that category, and with one vote.

I can see now why there are shows about 'stupid criminals' cause I know there are some damn stupid cheaters out there as well.

Anyhoo, I could vent, no use in it. I very well make take up that idea in the future of naming and shaming and upon entries do as suggested with a 'disqualified for cheating' plastered across the piece.

Naturally, that'll probably happen quite a bit too as they wouldn't read the rules then either ...

thanks for being the benevolent overlord of this place! :D

This makes the simplicity of the IP judging seem nice!

Jerks will be jerks forever. No evolution here.
I say no to disqualifying simple because there might be a jerk who falls in love with your honest masterpiece and he decides to help you by voting 10 times. Ban for the IP - yes!

Hinton
03-03-2008, 03:01 PM
Sucks to hear that some people feel the need to do that.

Banning the IP of the offending party? Absolutely.

Disqualifying someone, as Morf points out, might be a bit trickier. True, it's probably someone "dummy" voting because their friend asked them to, but it could simply be that someone knows who painted it and then takes it upon themselves to cheat. Kind of a tough call.

Skya
03-03-2008, 03:08 PM
Having been disqualified in the past due to someone elses misunderstanding of the rules, I'm strongly against banning or disqualifying entries unless you can tie the cheating directly to the account that entered. That would just lead to a different problem where the cheaters try to disqualify the other entries instead of trying to pad their own votes.

EricJ
03-03-2008, 03:13 PM
yeah, I agree, just ban the IPs and disqualify the votes, not the mini, just too hard to judge it fairly otherwise

GunjiNoKanrei
03-03-2008, 05:18 PM
Very high quality entries ... as always with the Wyrd contests :)

I agree with what has been said - just ban the IP's but don't disqualify the minis. Good to see that cheaters get caught and can do no harm.

Voted correctly (though a computer somewhere might say otherwise) for every category and dropped a few comments, where I hoped they might be of some use.

Looking forward to seeing who did what, to see if I guessed correctly - can see a mini-game coming on....

Would also agree about not disqualifying the work if there's cheating because (as the TGN poll at Xmas showed), fanboys might go mental voting for a mini just because it's from `their' game, regardless of painting standard/painter identity....

I'm really just floored that people would act so childish when voting. I may not be the most frequent poster, but I love this forum becuase it's not riddled with idiots. Apparently contests will still drag them out of the woodwork.

Everytime I think that people can no longer surprise me with the heights their stupidity will rise to I'm quickly proven wrong as this once again proves. It's very disheartening that you guys have gone through all the hassle to provide a little enjoyment for people and some chucklehead has to screw it up. i'm sure a lot of us really appreciate your efforts and are sure you'll deal with this in the most appropriate manner.

Right - hopefully all commented and voted on. Superb entries as per usual - well done everyone.

Also cheers Nathan for running it and it's a shame some people will always try and ruin something good.

Polls are closed. I'll be going through and doing some number edits now to weed out those that couldn't follow the rules when it came to placing votes. Should have results up later today or early tomorrow at the latest.

Is it okay to post pictures elsewhere now? I was thinking I'd put my entry up in the Toadstool since they extended the date this month, but won't if you'd like to keep a lid on the secrecy a little while longer.
