Ranged attack while in melee range

Greetings all.
I and another new player were playing a game yesterday with Som'er (me) vs Rasputina (friend).

Rasputina was chewing me up with magic and I got thinking that if I could close with her into melee range I should be able to prevent her from doing as much damage. But then we couldn't find a rule in the book to support this.

So is there a rule that prevents someone from making a ranged attack while engaged? I can't decide if I am blind or applying rules from other gamesets to Malifaux.

pg 41, Models engaged in melee cannot make ranged attacks.

She'll still be able to biting chill you, but will have to use cold touch instead of december's curse to cause the final wound.

One thing to keep in mind is that some spells don't have the :ranged icon, and so don't count as ranged attacks.
