Congrats, you have shown your skill and have forged worthy iron pieces. I humbly recommend you continue to do EXACTLY what you've been doing so far. Keep it up. Two more wins and it's all yours... $500 cash-money and the much more valuable title of IP8 champion. A win this round is worth at least $50 cash and $50 in Wyrd money. Good luck!!!

PS: Shout out to all the ladies in the semi's, Whoop, Whoop, Whoop! -that's one for each of you ;)

FINAL FOUR
MAY MADNESS!

"I'll win anything twice"
One of my personal fave's,
King of the post apoc,
IP5 champion,
Bexley

Vs.

Queen of color,
Master of the classics,
IP2 Champion,
Wren

"So close I can taste it"
The queen of cute critters,
Philanthropist extraordinaire,
IP6 Champion,
PaintMinion

Vs.

The only person I've ever paid to paint a mini,
Wyrd, Dark Sword, and CMON house painter,
The only person left that HASN'T won this already,
Brushmistress

Deadline is Sunday June 3rd @ 11:59 pm PST. This ends on a weekend folks, don't space it. I'll also be setting a judge deadline, after that I'll process any cards I have.

Judges this round are:
Supervike (easily distracted from scoring by boobies)
Commander Y (how does he paint MINIATURES yet send score cards back to me in size 40 font?)

Big thanks to Iacton, for joining us this round as our guest judge. He paints some fancy stuff and just brought more painting talent into the world as he welcomes fatherhood. I'm sure he has an impressive resume but I don't know it, his gallery (http://www.coolminiornot.com/browse/browseid/1640964) aint shabby though!

The three Wyrd judges will receive score cards as well.

Since you haven't been losin'
and paint while boozin'

you're making it easier to include zombies in the theme?

Yes, but I expect more Frankensteinesque or maybe Stephen King's Christine style entries. Heck, a nice Beauty and the Beast room full of animated furniture would even work.

Hm. I may have to abandon the post-apocalyptic meta theme this round. I do have a few ideas, but they'd all require a fair amount of explanation to make any sense. (Or at least, you'd have to be pretty familiar with the first Fallout game.) I have a fantasy-themed idea that I really like, too. I'll give it a day or two, though.

dugouts. ork doc is patching up a BBork missing a leg, the coach on the sidelines is yelling at the doc: "It's alive! Get it back in the game!"

(orks are neither male nor female, right? so "it" is right, right?)

If this thread was my entry for this round it would score a very weak 2 for theme. I want to see WIPs and hear god tier smack from the final four.

I got the idea I would have wanted to do if I'd had the time. Don't know how kosher it is to post ideas when I'm out of the running so I'll put them in spoiler tags:

Foul bachelor kitchen, scene shows a guy in undies sprinting away from the fridge. Fridge door is open and a slimy monster made from leftovers are spilling forth from it.

What? What's all this whining?! We're busy here!

Thinking Young Frankenstein, Zombies, Monsters, and old Vincent Price horror movies...

I am now home for now (memorial day weekend I am gone with family again). My Dad is doing okay, still not great, but better. I came home to a house in chaos, and am trying to think of a great idea. I have a semi-idea, 2 minis my hubby dug up for me, and am searching my bins for a few more I need to do the idea right. This would take sculpting, conversion, model and basing skills, as well as including all of my meta themes.

Now settle down and get to work people!

Coughing my lungs up, but I begin The Project now. 2 minis, 1 monster, 1 zombie, a few dandelions and a tombstone or two.

...about 2 hours later...

okay, in my fever-hazed, drug-induced progress, digging in my bins, I found my monster, but no tombstones. I think my husband hid his graveyard bits on me. I will make do. Pieces filed, only sliced my finger once with the knife - requisite blood offering - check. Waiting for glue to dry so I can prime. Going to sleep for a bit.

The title of my Round 5 piece is : "Slug Ate My Zombie"

For those that know what monster I chose, leave it as a secret until the reveal for those that do not know what is coming.

Yes a true artist internalizes the theme in the eternal struggle to juxtapose the inner landscape with the outer terrain, allowing experience and craft to meld with esoterics and the synonymous vision to create, um, er, the mini thingy.

I think that means I gotta get back to painting while my husband goes to the parade to see our daughter march. If I can babble, I can paint.

Con-Crud can really wipe you out. I spent about 10 years as a big con organizer. Traveling to shows, it never failed that one or more of my crew would get horribly ill towards the end of or just after any cons we worked or attended. Fevers, swollen throats, strange rashes, mold respiratory infections from hotels that should have been condemned, I wouldn't wish Con-Crud on anyone, not even Peterdita.:1_Exhausted_Puppet:

My paper clay is drying, my tree stump is painted, the coffin is ready for the body - zombie looking good! All is on track...if it would just dry FASTER. I'm getting the blow dryer...

...and a few hours later...

Dry and diorama base sprayed with black primer.

And then I thought I would add a couple extra details to the minis, and ...you ever have that total sinking sensation when you see bright flashes of bare metal where it's been rubbed off? I sank pretty low. I hate McMourning's hair - it's a nightmare to paint! And so many edges show wear as well. So I spent the last hour touching up places I thought were done. Then must seal them well again.

Next, deciding whether to work from the top of the diorama down or from low to high. Add detail work on base and foliage and grass, and the tree...homestretch coming none too soon!

Will work a bit of color on the base tonight and wait until the morning to tackle the rest. Need sleep! Need meds! Need fluids! Send chocolate!

my tree is store bought, true. but the rest of the forest in the background is converted / hand made with all the clumps of leaves glued and painted + all the other water based plants were all scratch built...
but you are correct, you are better than me so you, unlike me, get to post in the round 5 gallery...

wait, what did you say?

Er... not that I'm ready to upload yet, but I'm not seeing a round 5 gallery, either.

you can post it in the ITIC, like me :-P

Last day!!

I don't have gallery rights to set the round up. I sent a text, so hopefully it gets done soon. If anyone reading this can set up the gallery, please do so, thanks.

If there is no gallery set up, upload to the ITIC and we'll move them over.

Just under 10 hours left.

Pete - it's in the "ITIC" gallery.

Imagine my panic when I am ready to upload and I still do not see a gallery!

Yes, I said UPLOAD. Will use the ITIC Gallery right now. RIGHT NOW! Ha!

....update...I should not have spoken so soon. Took me four times to try uploading to get it to work. I am off to sleep now...catch you guys tomorrow, hope the gallery creation and switches happen soon! And on top of all that, Brushmistress beat me to the upload. kudos to you!

Sorry gang, it's the dreaded DNF for me. I know it's very unsatisfying for everyone, especially in the semi-finals. :-< The con crud left a sinus infection in its wake. I was unaware until recently that sinus infection symptoms can include vertigo, blurry vision, feeling spaced out and exhaustion, none of which are very conductive to painting. I wish I was still unaware of these symptoms. Feeling a little drunk/buzzed for four days is a lot less entertaining than it sounds, especially following a week of coughing. Today has been my most ambitious day of activity since I got sick. I did two whole loads of laundry! But I had to take a nap in between them. Sigh.

I would have loved to have taken Bexley out, but I have every confidence that either Brushmistress or PaintMinion will be able to reign victorious for the ladies, so will put my betting chips on whoever comes up the winner in their match. Good luck!

Aw, Wren, I am very familiar with the symptoms, and it is why when I get really sick like I did, we start the antibiotics right away - cuz it always turns into sinus infection.

I send you good vibes and healthy wishes - in no time at all you will wake up from a nap and realize you feel better than you have in ages. Life will return to normal, and you will finish this entry and upload it - maybe not in time for Iron Painter, but it will feel good to complete it eventually.

Meanwhile, rest, take your meds, LOTS of fluids.

Thanks PM. Can I be hopeful that back to normal will hit in the next three days? I'm supposed to go on vacation on Friday and I'm hoping that A) the plane ride won't completely bork my ears again and B) that I'll be able to actually do some tourist stuff.

What throws me a little is I'm not very congested. I wasn't particularly congested when I was sick. There was some sinus involvement, but it was mostly coughing and lung congestion. I haven't had headaches or felt much sinus pressure except for a few hours yesterday, many days into things. (I definitely have some post-nasal drip, however.)

as far as the threeway. Personally I think this late in the competition to change the rules of a round after the entries are in is not the fairest of things.
Face 2 face duel of the two best painters is the thing IP deserves.

I feel I have to say something, Iron Painter has been the most fun competition I've entered in a while (maybe even ever!). and I think, most will agree with me.

That said, it's kinda sad to see that powers that be didn't even bother to make the appropriate gallery for the winners of the round 4 in the two weeks it took those painters to come up with their masterpieces, and all after the fact that it took the judges almost a fortnight to judge the 8 entries of the round 4 - the amount of time it took the painters to actually produce those entries. At this moment, when the painters truly deserve full respect and attantion of everyone involved (us in the ITIC, the MC, the judges, the mods here), some parts (crucial) are lacking in their execution...

Pete, this has nothing to do with you, I know you're doing the best you can. and it still is a groovey competition which I will partake in again next time (job / family permitting), I just had to vent a bit :)

Long waits for judging have been a staple of IP. Though Wyrd does supply the prizes, it was always a forum/volunteer-run competition, and that includes the judges lending their time. So it's never really been something I've gotten terribly upset about.

I understand the frustrations...

Not to sound like I'm on the defensive here, but I've had my votes in for all the rounds within a day or two of recieving the ballot.

Also, in the past I was lucky enough to have my own 'mod' access to be able to create the galleries I needed for the contest. I honestly have no idea if I still have that access (haven't used it since IP7) but maybe I would have been able to help.

I'll get with Pete and see what I can do. I had assumed he had the ability to do those things, otherwise I would have tried to help out.

I'd tend to agree with getting the judging in within a certain timeframe. Sometimes that's like herding cats....

Besides being a fun contest, it's should also double as a good community builder.

I commented on all the entries. They probably sound pretty picky for all three and I guess they are. Put it down to me being really busy over the last week or so and not in such a jolly mood as usual perhaps.

I don't think any of the final entries have wowed me quite as much as I'd expect though, and the use of theme wasn't too strong either. None of them are bad by any means and all have a lot to admire but this is the semis, so I've got my hypercritical hat on. :D

Any onus for the last gallery not being set up should fall on me folks. Getting me the correct access to the boards has been challenging and I just let it go after a while. The galleries just sort of appeared in previous weeks so I assumed someone had been monitoring the situation of there was a gallery feiry or soemthing. I didn't scramble to get it set up until it was too late. My bad.

Wyrd personnel have been very busy doing the awesome stuff they do that keep us entertained, so I've moved to more guest judges and a now a deadline to keep things movin' and keep this contest from dragging too far into summer. No sweat.

Let's not forget about all that loot Wyrd has supplied for the event!!! I get to hand out over $1,000 next month, so big big $$$ Hells yeah $$$ thank you for that!

Bexley's probably already got his celebration bottle planned out. Which one of these ladies will challenge him? We shall see on Saturday. (I know who's winning :P)

PaintMinion There is no doubting your skill, The theme doesn't blow me away, but I love the colors and the humor.
Brushmistress Great painting on the lady, but those wings seem a bit distracting to me.
Bexley Technically awesome, however I feel a bit let down on this, as it doesn't seem to be as ambitious as others you've done. I guess that makes you a victim of your own success!

Viruk Is that dude wearing sunglasses? Nice entry, I love the grittiness of it.

Arlaharen LOVE IT! I love how you've created so much tension in such a small area. I scored this one higher than the 'iron' competitors as well. They are lucky you weren't in it this round!

PaintMinion This is bonkers. The theme itself probably would have worked more without the slug, but conversely the slug "makes" the piece and gives the whole thing a feel of a children's TV programme that has been invaded by grave robbers! Great fun though, which earns an extra kudos point from me :)

Brushmistress I really like the colours used here, and the wings are great. Shame the sculpt has such a weird left hand, which keeps drawing my eye. I didn't/don't get it without the words in terms of theme, unfortunately.

Bexley Nice, well thought out scene. Thematically good, couple of techniques thrown in. Good colour choices to create a cool/warm contrast

Viruk I'm not personally aware of this mini, so didn't really "get" it theme-wise. I would have liked to have seen more focus on his face as a point of interest, rather than the swishy metal blades.

Arlaharen Franken-Spider-Pig, Franken-Spider-Pig. Does whatever a Franken-Spider-Pig does... I assume this is a mad kit bash, but it looks like a production sculpt. Love the little girl. Wish the pics were a bit sharper to see her properly.

waghorn41 plus 1 to the Wag for twisting the theme to suit. Painting's not half bad either ;)

Demonn Agram Great choice of minis, great looking scene. I wouldn't have guessed the theme without the words, but the story in the scene is very cool.

PaintMinion Excellent work on the earth textures/colors, the slug is hilarious as well. The roots look amazing as well.

Brushmistress Evocative and disturbing. Amazing paintwork and the wings definitely lend to the mood of the piece with their rotten/decayed look. Something I don't think I've seen this way before.

Bexley Great flesh tones and blending. And boobies AND a zombie!! Like the color match between her hand and the eyes as well. Simple but powerful piece.

Viruk Love the paint job. Not sure on theme, but the conversion and the pose look great.

Arlaharen Disturbing, but in a good way. Great paint work, love the conversion and the little girl hiding is a nice touch.

waghorn41 Haha, very funny and another great Orkish vignette.

Demonn Agram I like this one. Nice take on the theme. The colors and work seem to be solidly executed and the lillypads are amazing. Great choices on the miniatures used as well. Poor goat. :(

I don't mind being knocked out by your piece - the wings are still weird to me, but the rest looks great.

Judges, thank you for your hard work! I wish you all stomped into little pieces, er, the best. I hate losing when I am so close, especially as skya will now berate me and dangle her two wins over my head again.

Sorry for the delay folks. Computer took a crap and my brain/body is mush, ipad was with fiance out of town and couldn't get it together, blah blah.

Having some forum issues posting threads, I can only post announcements. So I posted one of those. If a Mod could move it to a forum thread for me that would be appreciated.

Final round is posted!!! Good luck to the contestants and I hope to see the ITIC crew in great form again.

Thanks :) Don't really need any luck though as I'm not in the comp, ITIC is just for fun; no prizes or glory just the satisfaction, for me at least, of putting something together for every round. Yeh, I know, I'm mad. But who else would keep you all entertained? *grin*

Yeah, pretty much. Total disappointment. Looked pretty, but that's about all I can say good about it. PS - I think Noomi Rapace is an awful actress.

PaintMinion
06-14-2012, 01:56 PM
Prometheus wasn't an SF thriller, it was an SF drama. Should have caught a review before you saw it. Movie Minion on FaceBook is good ;-)

And I have my idea. It is how I would have felt walking away from this IP.

Demonn Agram

Peterdita
06-14-2012, 02:20 PM
She wasn't great, but with that broken mess of a story, I'm not holding her responsible.

But how about Michael Fassbender as David8? Now that was good acting to me. His opening sequesnces kept reminding me of the movie Moon. But he was really the only good thing that movie had going for it. That and Stringer Bell. :)

Shame on you Ridley Scott! Shake it off and try not to go butcher Blade Runner.

Prometheus wasn't an SF thriller, it was an SF drama.

If it was a good drama I wouldn't be blasting it. Fasbender's performance was top notch, Idris Elba was underutilized, Noomi Rapace is a mess and the Christian undercurrent is awkward at best. I am aware that those statements are just my opinion. I am still sorely disappointed that Prometheus was missing the poignancy of Blade Runner, the character development of Alien and the charm of Legend.

I'd say happy birthday but nothing can top whats already been posted. Have a good one SV!

I got my mini all prepped this weekend, but then got dragged out to a bunch of graduation parties. (high school girls!) lol, na, gradschool and masters and what nots. Went to this sweet Tiki bar that had karoake. Some dude stole my Young MC "Bust a move" song and I had to settle for some Dramara "anything anything". -Nailed it.

Nothing topped the one dude that showed up with his own earpiece remote mic and did Fergylicuous, complete with dance moves and all. Rivaled that cake post above. Flaming and all. Pride weekend in Portland is always very interesting...

(Bacardi 151 is dangerous, and "training" for my Mexican wedding by taking tequilla shots all the time is going to have to be reviewed as a sensible plan.)

Argggg. Trying to finish this mini and a Freebooter bad fairy by next weekend. Messed up the fairies wings on Saturday night and will have to start over. The IP mini is further behind but not messed up! So I got that going for me.

...Then someone in TX/VA stole my debit card # and ordered all sorts of online dating services, pron and a cheap hotel to probably meet said escorts at. $50 Howard Johnson hotel + $38@ "Asain girls2you"= Klassy!

I actually got started on the constuction on my piece. Idea is set but I'll have to channel a little Lono on this one as I'll only have Sunday to paint it. Not going with a battle scene though, and I expect massive bonus points from Pete for the take on the theme *grin*

waghorn41
06-26-2012, 04:51 PM
Well the theme was easy for a Bloodbowl orc piece but I felt it would not be in keeping with my 'normal' style. So, after a bit of wandering around outside the box I settled on an idea. Base constructed tonight and mini chosen with additional items. Should get it 90% done on Thursday. Now if I could paint as well as I theme you'd all be in trouble - nah, don't worry it ain't gonna happen. See y'all in the ITIC gallery soon.

I got it in, about five minutes before the deadline. I wanted to do something with more scenery, but the idea I used didn't really lend itself to urban terrain. I made do, though, since just flat open earth, while maybe more accurate, would have looked lame.

Anyway. Win or lose, I think I at least now hold the record for most final rounds.

My comments to Bex consisted of: "No boobies OR zombies...slipping..."

Just because they're prepubescent doesn't mean they're not there.

I noticed that the poll has already lost ground. Like all polls, people vote like mad in the 1st 24 hours and then it gets buried. Oh well. So, how many judges have turned in scores so far?

Still have the two in. My guess is I'll have to email them tomorrow to remind them. A few will say they will do it over the weekend and then Monday comes along and no scores, so I'll send another email using bold and underlined font, and then hopefully we'll get results. :)

Ah, the life of an IPMC!

then the painters and ITICers'll start a (Rodney King) riot, Pete'll get fed up, ask someone else to step in

and then hopefully we'll get results. :)

Ah-ha, I get it now.

Won't sub judges this round. This is the finals, and those were the original judges Wyrd gave me to judge this contest. So like it or not, they signed themselves up for it and are on the hook!

Just checked my email again, some groupon for horse racing and something from bulk reef supply. You all have heard about my personal life, and now know my emails. Nekkid pics are next! Who's ready?

oh yeah, you're still in it...

*grin*

just a while longer, and if it makes it any easier - you (at the moment) have a 2 point advantage going in...

That totally does not make it any easier. ;) But it's a little nice to know.

Votes will get done and no they haven't been ignored.

Busy time of the year for most of us in this industry.

Oh yeah - I know all about it. :) Just taking part in the time honored tradition of judge harassment/scoring impatience. ;) No offense or ill temper was meant.

Too late, he's $$$$$$$$ed at you Jess and this will totally reflect in the scoring. :P
