View Full Version : No Rulebooks in the UK?

I've got a store in England and the only UK based distributor has been out of rulebooks for at least 2 months.
I stock the full range of miniatures but the opportunity to sell them is much diminished if I can't offer new players a rulebook.
Can anyone at Wyrd tell me why there appear to have been no rulebooks available in the UK for at least 2 months and when I will get my hands on more?

Sounds a bit doubtful as we've plenty. We'll make inquiries.

Thanks for that. I've just checked and they've been out of stock at the UK distributor since as far back as September 2011. I get a monthly order form and that's the oldest one I've still got. It shows all the rulebooks as N/A. I didn't run out until just before Xmas but haven't been able to reorder since. Its definitely affected the models. I get interest from new players but I can't let them have a rulebook. I've got a shop copy of the first book so they can get a feel for the game from that but it seems crazy that I have money invested in stocking the complete range of models but not a single book to be had. Any help on this would be much appreciated.

Don't forget the mini rulebook is available as a free download off Wyrds site. It has a few parts blanked out, but its got everything you need to play the game.

I know about the download but I think as a retailer of Malifaux I should able to offer a hard copy book don't you?

Apologies if this gets me told off seeing as I'm a henchman and all but I know my LGS opted to stop selling malifaux as they were having issues with the distributor.

How do online retailers, based in the UK, do it then? They seem fine.

The retailer that is mine (Marauder games) has online too but got a bit annoyed :P

I haven't had any problems. Sometimes a few models are out of stock and I might have to wait for a shipment from the US but I just wondered whether anyone from Wyrd could shine some light on this?

Unless some UK online retailers buy directly from the US, we all get our stuff from the same Distributor and there is only one in the UK

Might be worth while clarifying if you mean the first book that was released which contained both the fluff and the rules or the newer mini rule book?
My new group have been able to pick up copies of the mini rule book pretty easily over the past month, although from what I can tell the first book is out of print, and being redone, and has not been available for about six months (which supports your timeframes).

Thanks for that Paul. I mean all of them.
Book 1 - the original rulebook with fluff
Rising Powers
Twisting Fate
The Malifaux Rules manual (The A5 softback with compilation of first two rules only - no fluff)
Does anyone from Wyrd read these forums? If so it would be really helpful to me if someone could clarify why my distributor can't supply me, particularly if other stores in the UK do seem to be getting them.
And to anticipate the next question, I have a good business relationship with the UK supplier and get regular Malifaux restocks from him so its not what has been alluded to previously or anything to do with not paying my bills.
The answer must be simple. Presumably Wyrd must know if they are not supplying the UK and if not why not?
Your first response was from Nathan, one of the head honchos of wyrd. If he says they'll look into it, you can believe that they are. Wyrd, after all, want to sell their products. :)

My former LGS always had difficulties with stuff being allegedly out of stock at the UK supplier, and usually had to tell people to order it online from elsewhere (part of the reason he eventually had to close). On one occasion I did manage to buy some of that "out of stock" stuff at the UK suppliers own retail stand at a gaming show later the same week.

Aaaah. I guess the 10,000+ posts was a giveaway and I just didn't notice. Didn't realise Nathan was Wyrd hence the posts that followed. I look forward to finding out why, because from Nathans reply it might be deduced that he doesn't know why? Did anyone see any books recently at any shows? Salute was on this weekend for example. If other stores have them it seems strange that I can't get them. Anyway, apologies for continuing this thread but I didn't realise who Nathan was.

And, of course, I also want to sell Wyrd's products. I stock the whole range, barring the odd one missing at the distributor so I'm as keen as they are to get the books.

Dave - you numpti:facepalm: The OLD main malifaux rulebook has been deleted and is not being re-printed, (the big original one with the fluff and the black/red cover) all other books including the Handbook (which is now the main rulebook) are in stock and have been for ever. You probably should have just asked. The sheet showed it as OOP from mid-2011 and then deleted when we got told it wasn't being re-printed. We did note it on one of the new release e-mails to say it was gone. Guessing you missed it. We haven't been out of any of the other books any time in recent history.....
Going to be adding a few handbooks to this week's order by any chance????*grin*

I'll speak to you later. But perhaps you should amend your order form which shows all three as N/A? And yes I will be ordering some :)

But now I realise what N/A means (which I thought was not available). A reference to VAT perchance? I thought I had asked but perhaps I just thought I had. No matter. Sorted that's all that matters

The N/A is in the VAT column as in Not Applicable - same as all the other rulebooks which come under "Books" for zero-rated VAT.
Never mind I've got about 200 Rules Manuals, 180 Rising Powers and about 72 Twisting fates - so you'll be well covered I'm sure :)
