The Fire & Ice Tournaments will take place as part of the BHGS Roll Call multisystem event in Cranfield on 16/17th June.
The event will consist of two basically independant tournaments to try and attract as many people as possible over the two days.
Saturday: 35SS ranked fixed faction scrap tournament to Gaining Ground guidelines
Sunday: 45SS non-ranked fixed faction brawl tournament with a few fun twists
See attached rules pack for more details. Sunday rules may get tweaked slightly (e.g. random core encounters, not shared), but the basic intent is there.
Painting competition will go as follows;
Saturday - best painted 35SS crew (from your pool for the day)
Sunday - best painted figure, 30mm base, from chosen faction (but need not be in your crew)
Entry is good value at £8 for 1 day, £15 for both days. Prizes will be sponsored by Wyrd, Sarissa Precision and KR Multicase.
Venue: Holywell Middle School, Red Lion Close, Cranfield, Milton Keynes MK43 OJA
Where's that: Cranfield is 2 miles from junction 14 of the M1, near Milton Keynes
Facilities: tea & coffee available at the venue, alomg with a buffet lunch at around £3. Supermarkets, pubs & take-aways available in Cranfield (within walking distance of the venue)

Unfortunately I don't like curry (I know, I must be about the only Englishman that doesn't) however if the restaurant you book has a couple of non-curry choices (steak & chips) then I'd be happy to come along.

That'll be because Som'er is broken :)
I can see it now, row upon row of pigapults - the sky will go dark with pigs, leastways until Pere lands and provides some illumination!
And so the gremlins will "rain" supreme? :P
Clousseau
06-02-2012, 06:16 AM
Yes, the gremlins are broken, but there's some Viks/Von Schill combos out there that could be interesting as well.
Locally we have some brawl practice planned for Tuesday :)

I'm still hoping to make it but have a clash of diaries. Not mine of course, the ex's and a party that my daughter needs to be taken to.
If I can overcome these problems then I'll definitely be coming, and I'd be up for a curry, Chinese Thai or anything that's a bit spicy. MK or more local to the venue should be fine with me as I'll almost certainly be driving...

I understand that life sometimes gets in the way :Paralyzed_Puppet:
If you can let me know at least a week beforehand that'd be great as I try hard to even numbers up as I don't play in my own tournaments (though it might happen on the Sunday as that's more laid back).

Most of my crew will be painted, but might like to use some stuff that isn't.
There's no penalties if I do use them?

It was definitely a great day, fun games and fun players and I really enjoyed myself!
It went really smoothly so great, although the eternal comment of "gaining ground's timing rule is not working" was brought up again. It did allow us to play 4 games in a day, but most of those games had to be terminated at turn 4 or 5, which doesn't really reflect the potential of a Malifaux game. Wyrd should really change that to 120min.
Thanks Dave you were once again excellent, and thanks to my opponents who were all very friendly :)

Day 2 of the event is now over, and again I had to play due to uneven numbers. Today was a bit more laid back with 45SS brawls, random individual strategies and random weather effects.
So here's the result of 3 rounds of combat.

2 Joel - Neverborn 6/10/24

Re the event, another brilliant job by Dave/Clousseau and kudos to Joel and Tim for their wins. Also, great to meet so many new "not regular" (irregular?) faces - by far the est thing about this game is the people/community, and that was shown again this weekend. Thank you everyone who came.

Well, what can I say? I'm amazed I won . . . just means I will do badly next weekend at the ETC instead. But I had 7 great games over the weekend, all of which were nice, closely fought games. It's no fun beating someone 8-0 on turn 1. I would much rather fight tooth and nail, and I had that for 7 games.
Also nice to play 6 different opponents over the games as well, and great to see so many new faces around.
Hopefully the Northampton campaign day ( http://www.wyrd-games.net/showthread.php?32396-Dead-Heat-Campaign-Day-in-Northampton ) will help bring some more players into the regular crew.
If there's one thing I love about this game, it's the community.

I had three great close games, thanks to all my opponents, I'm sure the look of shock on my face when Timmy showed me what a Collodi with 8 little friends can do was worth it. I'm looking forward to the campaign day and hopefully building up more local players (even if we do get splitters like Adam :) )
Finally thanks again to Dave for all of his hard work for the days and the community in general. It's really appreciated.
