View Full Version : A Pledge to all us writers

So it was brought up in another thread but i think it bares mention here and hopefully is worthy of your support.
Its hard to get comments from those that read the stories posted here. Often times we'll see sixty or seventy plus views on things that have no responses.
As a writer nothing pleases me more than feedback. Any one of you who've started a thread in any part of the forum do so with the intention, not to have views, but to have a discussion.
I pledge that no matter what i read in the Writing Room that I will leave a comment and I'll try and make it a meaningful one if possible.
How you comment is up to you but even if you just said that you liked it we writers would appreciate even that.
From this day forward I'll be commenting on everything i read here. Join me, please. We all work hard, let's show our gratitude for each others entertainment and creativity with a few seconds of interaction shall we.

(thumbs up) I'm for this! Was about to leave the thread, then had a moment of: wait, that defeats the purpose...

I'm a big fan of feedback, and try to leave it where I will. This gives added incentive to do so.

That's a good policy. I must admit I have been guilty of that myself.

Everyone's guilty of it, me too, but at some point we gotta realize how much we love feedback and how little we usually give.
So let's be done with that. Storytellers rejoice, for today is a new day where all narratives are responded to! (Hopefully)

Well, as a storyteller in this very thread, (see link below...shameless plug) it is good to have feedback, and I have been guilty of reading some stories and not leaving anything.
I will pledge from now on that if i read some work, I will leave some comments..and hope that people who stumble across mine will do the same!
And just as a warning to those who haven't read any of my stuff yet, there is quite a lot!

Guilty as charged.
I will join in with this policy.

This isn't a story thread, so I don't have to reply despite stating in the previously mentioned thread/story that I would. Oh wait.....!

I too support this idea and commit to read more and comment on everything I read. :)

Although I don't currently read the fiction section of the forums, I was intending to start soon, so I shall do my best to give my opinions, no matter how trivial, where possible!
Keep up the good work everyone, it can often be hard to remember that 0 replies doesn't mean 0 readers.

Actually it is easy to see how many views the story recieves. It isn't crickets chirping, it is silent foot traffic. <Shuffle shuffle>

I will pledge to leave feedback sure, but first I've got to pledge to actually read stories, and then to get round writing stories and then to film stories and... and... a..
-I'll get back to work

Sounds like a plan. Now if I can just finish the latest part of my story...lol...

I agree. Writers on forums put in a lot of man-hours on their craft and to be recognised for it is often the best part of the whole process.
If you've read someone's effort, it only takes a couple of seconds to make a comment: even a few words can validate all the effort the writer has gone to.

Agreed. I usually try to post something...but as with most of us, I tend to forget from time to time.
I know how you feel with responses, or lack thereof. The first story I put up here a long while back (admittedly not my best or most thought out story) got like 120+ views and no responses. Sometimes we just take that to mean, "Well that was the worst piece of garbage...I'm not even going to dignify that with a response." Though this is usually not the intention of the reader, but still, feedback is always nice. The impact, though, is that I haven't done anything more with that character. :(

That seems a shame...give me the link to that first story and I'll take a look....and let you know...
Shame to see what could be a good character go to waste.

I like the idea of pledging to comment and if I get around to reading some of the stuff on this subforum, I'll do so. I suppose (for Devil's Advocate purposes) that a possible downside is clutter of a story thread with comments inbetween "chapters"(posts) by the author. I guess that would be the author's fault for not reserving additional posts and can also be addressed by simply continuing later chapters in a new thread (linked to the original, of course).

That should be the link AB. Like I said, not my best, I think I wrote it in like an hour at work, haha. The character was adapted from someone I came up with for a 40k story, but he seemed easy to adapt to malifaux. I just feel like I jumped around a bit too much with his personality. The more I write on this forum the more I realize I'm better at the dark, twisted stuff than the action story.....maybe I have issues hahahahaha.

Wow, I come in here everyday and there seems to be a lot of new stories I haven't yet read.... I WILL read all of them, but it might take some time, and as I have said in this thread, i will leave comments on each and everyone!
Its nice to see this area of the forum getting some love...when I posted my first 'Black' story, you could wait for days before anything else appeared!
Well done to all you creative souls out there, lots of fantastic fan fiction appearing...just need to find time at work to read it lol!

I have to agree, it's nice to have so much action in here.
It has me desperate to leave work everyday to see what other stories have been written or commented on.

Ditto to this. So much good stuff being put up! It's awesome, it really is. Wish I had more time to read right now, I definitely intend to get through people's stuff, and leave comments. It's great to see this section of the forum so active.

So twenty three days into the pledge and I think as writers and readers we've done a very good job of staying on top of each others' stuff. Very good. I've enjoyed everyone's writing and hopefully they've enjoyed mine. New stuff is coming out frequently and i'm thinking the authors are pleased with the increase in comments.
I think i have a new pledge i'd like to create soon. Got to consider it for a bit.

I will hold my hands up and say i still have a lot to read...but the last couple of months have been hectic at work (which is where i usually get the chance to read them!) as i am an accountant and december/january are hell on earth as its tax return time!!
But come february I am hopeful i will get my reading time back, and also the chance to add more to my ongoing saga!

Like AB I have struggled for time on the forum and haven't read much recently.
Different reasons right enough, engagement and job change.
I hope to also resume normal reading service come February.

I do pop on here as often as I can, which isn't nearly as often as I would like, but I do try to read a bit.
Christmas, my wedding, and the honeymoon have passed eventfully. I have only closing the purchase on our new house and my best friend's wedding to accomplish and then I will be able to spend some free time reading and writing.
So, under those conditions, I pledge my continued dedication to you all, my fellow hobby-writers. :)
