The RM defines Friendly models and Enemy models, but it does not say that if a model is not one, it is the other.
Q: Is it possible for a model to be neither Friendly nor Enemy to its own crew?

Ryle doesn't count as friendly to his own crew (I forget the talent name) but he obviously isn't the enemy.

Mindless Zombies also does not belong to a crew.

Don't MZs count as enemy models to both crews though?

Mindless Zombies do not belong to a crew, but they are "controlled" by each player in an alternating fashion, and according to the RM:
A model is friendly when:
• It is under that Crew’s Control
So when you are controlling it, it is Friendly. When not, not.
I think the answer to my own question is that a model can be both non-Friendly and non-Enemy at the same time, but the RM is not definitive on the matter, and annoyingly it does not give this status a name (eg. "Neutral").

For what it's worth, when Mindless Zombie are hit by Nicodem's Decay, they get damaged rather than healed.
Healing is for friendly undead.
Other models, regardless of their type, suffer damage.
A lot of spells which differentiate between friendly and enemy models work that way, I think (i.e. they provide information on what they do to friendly models and everything non-friendly is caught by the other effect).
In other words, I don't think there's much need to differentiate between neutral and enemy - I think they are all in the same bag in the most cases.
I may be missing something, though.

For example, if Ryle is not a friendly model to his own crew, can he be targeted by abilities that affect enemy models? He is "never considered friendly to his crew for the purposes of selecting a target", so is he then (a) automatically considered an enemy or (b) he is neither friend nor enemy?

Ryles rule says he is not classed as a friendly model for spells and abilities that target friendly models
