I did a search and there are about a million bajillion threads on ice pillars. I went through a few but could not find the answer I was looking for. I'm sure it's in there somewhere, but meeeeeeh ...

Tina's Ice Pillars spell does not specify an end point, nor does it specify that the pillars are permanent. Does this mean they melt during the resolve effects closing phase?

I had a player ask me this recently and all I could do was stare.

I've always played that they stay in play until destroyed, but now I'm wondering. Ice pillars are terrain, is that what makes them permanent compared to other spell effects? In other words, are ice pillars not considered to be "effects" because they do not change a model's state and therefore are not resolved during the closing phase?

That is correct, the spell create terrain pieces, and then ends. The terrain created stays in play untill it is destroyed.

Actually you should leave severe terrain markers in their place when they're destroyed. :)

Edit: As always with breakable terrain.

Yeah. They are in play until someone attacks and destroys them, and then they are still severe terrain until the end of the game

Thanks all. That's how I've always played it but I was at a loss trying to explain why when put on the spot.
