Playing against Zoraida last night, she had Contain Power for a Strategy, and a question we came up with was this: If you use Obey in order to kill the opponent's master, would it give you the full 4 VP for Contain Power? RM states that the opponent's leader must be killed by your leader in order to get the full 4 VP. Does Obey count for that, or would it count as the Obey-target getting the kill? Technically, it is an effect generated by the Master, so last night we ruled that it would count for the full 4 VP. Were we right?

Obeying someone else to kill a master would not count as the leader fulfilling the deathblow because they are still using an intermediary. In order for Zoraida to count as having killed the other leader Zoraida herself would have had to be the one dealing the death blow, the Obeyed model is not considered to be Zoraida just because Zoraida was the one who cast the spell. Just like Override Edict or Alpha is not considered to be Hoffman or Marcus. They are exerting their will on another model but that model is not them.

Bummer, OK. Understand the reasoning. Good reason not to take those models when you have Contain Power for a Strategy then. I guess Hoffman's Machine Puppet would fall under the same category as well.

Okay, just to clarify this - what if Zoraida does damage and gives a model poison which then kills it on it's next activation? Does Z get the credit for the kill then as she gave it poison?

Yeah, that's been ruled elsewhere, but if the model dies from the Poison, it is an effect caused by Zoraida, so it would still count. That one I remember.
