Would it be possible to get a master list of how various abillities effect paralized models?

Practicing for a Gencon tournament yesterday this came up. Zoraida versus Nicodem. I had a mature Nephilim which Nicodem repeatedly paralyzed.

Can a paralyzed model be obeyed and moved? If a paralyzed model's melee range is reduced to 0, could a model with a ranged attack be obeyed and still attack?

Can a paralyzed model be lured?

What about movement-like effects such as transposition? I could see an argument for how transposition is not the paralyzed model moving but being transported by the magic of another model, but then how would lure and obey work?

What about things such as earthquake and wing buffet?

If the model is lured or obeyed and it is ruled that this will not move the model, does the model then count as "activated" and lose paralysis?

Does machine puppet work?

Basically, how do these various abiliities work with a paralyzed model?

Ps. I make great cookies and would be willing to pay/bribe a rules marshal with them.

Well, this one is pretty simple. Paralyze says that the model can not take any actions. What does Obey do? Make you take a Charge or a (1) Action. That should answer itself: No, you can't Obey a Paralyzed model (well, technically you CAN cast Obey on a Paralyzed model, but it won't do anything).

Can a paralyzed model be lured?

I'm not 100% certain on this one, but I think the answer is yes, since it's a Push, and it's not an action.

Your argument is exactly right. Transposition and Lure are movement EFFECTS not movement ACTIONS. That's the difference.

What about things such as earthquake and wing buffet?

Again, these abilities are movement Effects, so they would move a Paralyzed model.

If the model is lured or obeyed and it is ruled that this will not move the model, does the model then count as "activated" and lose paralysis?

Well, as stated above, you can't Obey, and Lure is simply a movement effect. A model counts as 'activated' only after it has actually been nominated to 'activate'. An easier answer to this question would be...when you Obey a normal model which hasn't activated yet in the turn, is it considered 'activated' after that point? No.

Does machine puppet work?

This one hasn't been answered definitively yet, I think, but my guess is that the answer will be "no". Machine Puppet is causing the target to take a Strike Action, or at least that's how I read the ability.

Overall, the easy way to keep track of it is to pay attention to what things cause a model to take a specific Action (i.e. Walk, Charge, Strike), and what things simply cause an effect (Pushes, Place, etc.).

I'm just posting so I can opt to watch the thread...

Though for my $0.02, I would be inclined to say that Obey would work also, since the restriction is on the model taking actions. This is more of an RAI interpretation, and I'm a total newbie, but I'd be inclined in rules terms to say that the model can't take action, but can still be forced to take actions. In terms of flavor, either Nicodem causes a death-like state, and then controls the undeadness, or an Arcanist magically holds your limbs, then control them like a puppetmaster, etc.

As an aside, is there a way to subscribe to a thread without posting and just adding noise to the conversation?

No. A Paralyzed model may not perform any Actions. Obey specifically states Actions.

Can a paralyzed model be lured?
Yes. The Push involved with Lure is not an Action it is an effect.

What about movement-like effects such as transposition? I could see an argument for how transposition is not the paralyzed model moving but being transported by the magic of another model, but then how would lure and obey work?
Those will all work. See Lure above.

What about things such as earthquake and wing buffet?
Again, see above.

If the model is lured or obeyed and it is ruled that this will not move the model, does the model then count as "activated" and lose paralysis?
No it would not count as activated.

Does machine puppet work?
Machine Puppet will not work. Strike is a specific action and a Paralyzed model also does not have a melee range.

Ps. I make great cookies and would be willing to pay/bribe a rules marshal with them.
Bribe accepted. :)

For reference sake, Page 34 of the Rules Manual pretty clearly says that a Paralyzed model cannot take any actions. Using Obey grants either a (1) Action or a Charge Action. Either of those are Actions. So, you can cast Obey on a Paralyzed model until the cows come home, and you'll burn up AP doing it. But the Paralyzed model will never move anywhere or do anything.

As for suscribing....look at the top of the thread, click on Thread Tools. Should be a link under there to subscribe. ;)
