This came up last night
I have been playing the companion rule as : at the beginning of an activation nominate a mini with companion and any other minis with similar companion within a six inch chain of each other. They then activate in any order.
However my opponent last night was of the opinion that as he had more minis also with companion he could add to the chain after the initial nomination as it is before that minis activation
Eg papa loco companions perdita and he activates first. He comes forward but fails to do damage to the target. Before perdita activates she companions in niņo and the perdita fail to damage, niņo therefore companions the other two ortegas.
Under my understanding they would all have to have declared at the beginning but could then activate in any order.

This is how I understand it - Any number of Companion models can be chained (as long as they are within 6" of another model in the chain), but they would all need to be declared as activating at the same time (before activating any one companion).

Yes, their activation being simultaneous as per RM (although they do activate one after the other in practice).

It's simultaneous but bear in mind they can chain it, as long as each model is within 6" of a legit companion they can theoretically end up chaining models across the board.
They do all have to be declared at the start of group activation (this used to be called simultaneous activation)

Aye I knew they could chain it as long as they follow the 6" rule, it was more that the ones in the chain need to be declared first and the chain cannot be added to that was the important bit :D
Thanks!

Yeah form all the chain when selecting activation, then Activate the chain all together. You can't add extra after you have started all the activations. All their activations are considered to have already begin.
Note that things like Seamus's ability to speed up his belles are checked when you activate the group, not when the individual models in the companion groups get to use their AP.

That leads back to an old question I never saw the answer to... so are they all considered to activate at the point of the group activation ? e.g. if nino was poisoned would he die before abuela could heal him even if she was chosen to act first (insert regen, discard on activation, etc) ?

It was answered: They all activate, so Nino would die from poison right away and Abuela woiuld be too late to heal him.
