Hello everyone. First time posting on these Forums. I have just started playing Maifaux. So far, played a handful of games with Hamelin, and his crew plus an few extra things. An few different things have come up in the game, and I wanted to basically just get an better understanding of some of these abilities, just to make sure I am doing it all correctly.
1.Does No Humanity, provided by the Stolen reduce WP until the end of that particular turn, or until the end of the encounter? I would assume it is just until the end of the turn, since it doesn't say otherwise.
2. With Emtpiness on Nix, can I use the negative flip modifier to make it to where the model I am attacking has to flip 2 and take the lowest in its defensive flips against my attack? Emptiness seems like something to protect you from being killed, but if it works this way also, it could be an very good offensive mechanism.
3. Does Bleeding Disease have an Damage Flip associated with it, or does it just deal straight damage, and in no way can be mitigated? Also, I just wanted to make sure that the Blight Counters stack, and allow me to deal damage, based on how many that models has, correct? I thought I had read it only deals 1 damage for the first blight counter.
4. It seems like all of my Crews spells are mostly just Willpower Resist spells, and none of these are strikes. By having this, does it mean that I can essentially bypass the disadvantage of targeting into melee?
5. Does the Void allow me to ignore ALL discard effects? Even the effects where I am given an option of either discarding, or doing another thing?
6. When Hamelin comes back, he gets an -4 to his Casting, but does this stack up in the event that I die multiple times?
7. Devoured allows me to heal Vermin within X amount of inches, and the Writhing Mass ability allows me to take wounds, in order to teleport. So, could I cause my rats to take wounds, in order to kill them off, so that my rat catcher is healed back up?
8. Impetuous states I get an positive modifier to flips made during my next action. Do I also get an positive modifier on the damage flips my rats make as well?

1. It lasts until the end of the turn. All effects end at the end of turn unless they state otherwise.
2. Yes, Emptiness is a very strong ability. It would force them to defend from your strike with a negative flip, as well as having a negative flip on any duel they take (offensive or defensive) while in the aura.
3. Bleeding disease. The way that the damage is mitigated is through the spell resist. It is straight damage though, so youeither do the full damage or none. Concerning the blight counters, yes they do stack, but the inherent ability of the blight counter is an if-then statement. If you have any blight counters, then you take one additional wound from any source. Combining all of this: if a model with 4 blight counters is targeted with a successfully cast bleeding disease then one of two things happen. They could resist the spell suffering no damage, or they could fail to resist the spell suffering 5 damage (4 from the spell and an additional from the presence of one r more blight counters)
4. Many of Hamelin's crew's spells are willpower duels, and this does get around the defense stat on most models. This is not a substitute for strikes though. You'll rely on strikes from you models (i.e. rats) to distribute blight counters. Also Nix and Hamelin have some strong melee potential. Remeber that bleeding disease does nothing against someone with no blight counters.
5. Yes, as long as they specifically target Hamelin.
6. I believe that it does. I'd suggest not dying.
7. Unless an ability states that you can kill yourself with it, then you cannot use something that would kill you as part of the cost. The Ratcatcher can use his (0) action to kill all rats within 6" and because of voracious rats they would all be immediately replaced with new rats.
8. As long as your next action is a strike then you would. The damage flip is part of the action of a successful strike.
You should stop by the Outcast forums and look around for Sandwich's tactics for Hamelin. He shares some good insights on things to do with him. I've played about a half dozen or so games with Hameln and he falls into the "easy to use, but hard to master category."

1. Until the end of the turn. Whenever an ability doesn't specifically tell you when it ends, it ends at the Start Closing Phase.
2. If that model is non-soulless, it is at :-fate on all flips it makes. If it attacks you, it's at a :-fate on the attack and damage flips, if you attack it, its at :-fate on the defense flip. Likewise, if Hamelin targets that model with (1)Understand the Soulless, that model will be at a :-fate for the Resist flip.
3. There is no damage flip. Because it deals 1 Wd per Blight Counter, a mitigation flip cannot reduce the Wd taken. The only way to stop Wd from incoming is to successfully resist the spell.
4. Yes. None of your Ranged abilities (Save Hamelin's Pipes) Are Ranged Strikes and therefore may be cast into and out of melee at no penalty.
5. Yes. Nothing can make Hamelin discard anything. Note that this only works if Hamelin is the target of the spell/action/trigger. If they hit a Rat, Stolen, RAt Catcher, or Nix, you still have to discard.
6. No. The Hamelin that returns is a brand new model with -4 Ca. Each time he comes back, he comes back at 3 Ca. It is not cumulative.
7. No. You cannot kill yourself via (0)Writhing Mass. It says somewhere (Quote Please) in the Rules Manual that a model may not kill itself unless the action specifically states that you can.
8. Yes. Any flips made during the Rat's next action receives a :+fate . If you are disengaging, you get a :+flip to your Defensive flip. If you're resisting a Spell, you get a :+fate to your Resist flip. If you're attacking, you get a :+fate to both Attack and Defense flips.

1)
Ends during the Resolve Effects Step of the closing phase. (Page 32 of the manual).
6)
Safe named effects do not stack, so even if it wasn't a new model you still would only ever receive -4 Ca at the worst.
7)
Not sure what's being asked in the original question.. But @Sandwich, page 44 of the Rules Manual says this:
"A model cannot use a Talent or cast a Spell that requires it to inflict Wd on itself if it would reduce its own Wounds to 0."
I believe the rest of the questions have already been answered correctly.
