Jack Daw and Severed Ties

Just started to use Jack Daw and just wanted to get some clarity on one of his spells 'Severed Ties'
It is a 6" aura effect that states 'Models may not cheat fate or use soulstones to change starting Duel totals'
Am I correct that it does not effect Jack himself?
Does it effect enemy and friendly models? My reading is that it does.

If an aura/pulse doesn't specifically say "enemy models" then yes, it effects everyone in range. I believe that it does effect Jack himself, but if you're using him as a beacon for Severed Ties, then he's generally be spending his actions moving into position and casting ST's, so he wont really need to cheat...and he's damn near invincible, just keep a 1-2 in your hand if he happens to take damage.

Actually auras (and pulses) don't affect the model from which they originate unless specifically mentioned in the effect text.

Don't have my manual here though, so can't give you a reference, but I bet it's on one of the first pages..

You say that. I just wack up his no cheat aura and then Hangman Noose models to death.. that extra 1VP is actually not hard to get. He's got a good Ca and if the enemy can't cheat it's very easy to get a flat flip and cheat in a severe.

Nice, haven't used him in a while, so that's good to know. Yeah, blasting away with the Noose of Doom is fun, usually by the time I move him up to beacon ST, the rest of my crew cleans up pretty well....or the enemy runs away from Jack as fast as possible, lol.

Does this override the "max 8vp" change in the new rulebook as it's written on a card (typically rules on cards override rule book rules)?

No.. It just means that if you include him and get that extra 1 VP aswell as 8 VP from schemes/strategies, you still only have a total of 8.. ;)
