Okay fellow Malibros, I know you can attack you're own models but do they defend like an enemy, (make flips + or -) Can you decide to ignore the results say in a melee like you can when you're casting magic. Basically can you always hit them? Thanks fellas.

You cannot choose to auto-fail the defense flip.
It is in every way a normal opposed duel between the two models involved (any :+fate and :-fate from paired, cover, etc. will have to be taken into account).
You can however cheat fate for both models, so cheating in a low card for the defender makes it very likely that it'll be hit.

They always defend.
In a Resist duel you can always choose to tie the numbers as the defender.
(That means :-fate:-fate on a Damage Flip)
You always have the option to cheat low.
Edit: powned. :[

That's pretty much it. If your in a melee or shooting duel with your own model, you have to run everything like normal including cover. I normally make two stacks one for the attacker, one for the defender. Then you can cheat as normal to make sure you hit the model you are after.
If a spell has a resist you can't target yourself with it. However if you target another of your own models the defending model has the option to draw with the model so that it goes off. Note that this will give you a :-fate:-fate damage flip if the spell has damage, so sometimes you might still want to cheat down your result rather than take this option.

I don't think that's right, that only applies when the spell has a :melee or :ranged (and is thus considered a strike). I think it came up and was ruled on in a discussion about Lilith and Transposition.
Also: you're up reading the forums at the oddest times of day...

^ Erm would this be a bad time to point out Ratty is a rules marshall so his word is kinda the law

It was that way in the old rules. the Rules Manual changed this. You should have head Wodschow celebrate. The important quotes from the manual are these.
• A model casting a Spell with a http://wyrd-games.net/forum/../images/smilies/Melee.gif or http://wyrd-games.net/forum/../images/smilies/Ranged.gif icon in its Rg, or one that requires a Resist Duel, is casting an attack Spell.
A model cannot attack itself unless the attack's description states that it affects friendly models.
