I'm looking to grab a box for my wife to see about getting her into this game with me; neither of us have played tabletop minis before, but I am really excited to learn this game. I have a Seamus box, and I am thinking if I get my wife the Colette box she'll like the look of the minis and give it a shot.

Is Colette "noob" friendly, or are her rules a little more complex than that? If she's more an advanced player's set, what would be a good set to pick up for her? As dumb as it may sound, the look will matter, so I'm thinking Neverborn are out; maybe a Guild set instead?

Thanks much all!!

Colette is definitely a little on the complex side, although not terribly so for Malifaux. It may still be worth a shot, because I agree, those are just flippin' awesome minis.

If you want to kick the complexity down a notch and still go for a girlfriend friendly look, I might try Lady Justice from the Guild.

Colette might seem a bit hard at first, but I know some people who started Malifaux (and tabletop wargames as a whole) with pretty difficult crews (Colette, Dreamer), and they became very good players after just a few games.

But if you want something easier for your wife, I recommend the Book 1 Guild crews (Perdita, Sonnia or Lady J). They are easy to play out of the box, and are very rewarding.

No love for Ophelia? Small, cute, easy to paint, full of character and straightforward to grasp and play. Get mean, go green :)

I started with the Viks, but after about 3 weeks and only 3-4 games I bought Colette and I don't think I've touched the Viks since, lol. So, I don't think that Colette was THAT difficult to start with. Just play some games with the box set only at first. Then add in some Doves. Then add in the Coryphees. Just work your way up. :)

Looks like I'll be grabbing Colette and the Rising Powers book...the wife likes the looks of her. Thanks much all!
