View Full Version : Gaining Ground 2011: Note to Tournament Organizers

Hi All,
The goal of the Gaining Ground document was to make a complete tournament document with our long term goals in mind, which put a lot of emphasis on fair play and removing the lure or possibility of cheating from our tournaments. Along these lines the official tournament rules mandate the use of Wyrd printed Malifaux Stat Cards.
However, we are acutely aware that this creates some short term difficulties for players, as we have only recently made available the officially updated cards, and we have not yet achieved a comprehensive solution to make all the v2 cards easily available, despite our best efforts. This will change in the long run, as we make decks of v2 cards available through distribution, so you can pick up everything you need at your local game store.
As such, we encourage Tournament Organizers to use their discretion with regards to the rules related to Stat Cards and focus on the most important rule of tournaments: To make them fun! With the exception of the Tournaments Wyrd intends to run at Gencon, the ruling of requiring Wyrd-printed Stat cards at official tournaments will be suspended until the time at which Wyrd makes available the v2 decks of stat cards.
Happy gaming all!
Eric

Bravo! :clap::clap::clap:
However, now be be prepared for the complaining and endless threads of the V2 decks aren't out yet.
I, for one, will not complain; more work on my end grumble grumble. ;)

I find the Sebastian avatar suitable for you :)
Also nice with an official statement like this Eric, the amount of complaints was getting a little tiring.. xD

does this mean that Wyrd will have cards for exchange at Gencon? or would be willing to accept card only store orders for collection?
If there are casual play events at Gencon I may want in.
(I can just play Colette I suppose).

No. There will not be any card exchange done by Wyrd at Gen Con.
or would be willing to accept card only store orders for collection?
Yes. You can order cards from the online store now. If I'm interpreting your question correctly.

any word on the format for the tourney at Gencon, specifically point size? Yeah, I know I hijack. I am an outlaw that way. Good call on the cards for tournaments Eric.

Sort of...I know I can order cards direct. However, I'm in Europe, and the idea of paying ten dollars postage on 7 dollars worth of cards is just wrong.
What I'd like to happen would be if I could place an order to replace whatever cards I need replacing, and they'd be waiting for me at the stand in Indy. This would of course be limited to people who preordered replacement cards ONLY. Maybe not practical, but I can dream...and it's the only way I'll be able to play my Sonnia crew.

Flat shipping is flat shipping.
And no. We won't be doing anything like your suggesting either as that can be a logistical nightmare.

Er. if you know a whole lot of people going to Gencon why not just team together for the order and all pick up on the day from one person. You must be able to find at least half dozen people on the forum that are going.

Sketch, are there going to be individual cards for sale at Gencon? or just faction decks?

No individual cards. Too early to say about Faction decks.

Faction decks would be a blessing, I need every Ressurectionist card. I would love to pick 'em all up in one fell swoop when I'm at the Con!

Old thread but question releated.
Has any more information come out about card packs? After a dormant period my group is picking Malfo back up with a fury and that means we are looking to get v2 cards..
It does look like picking up all the cards we need from the store will cost a pretty penny we wanted to know about the possible card packs and/or if the rules about the printed PDF's have changed for Gencon.
Thanks!

Having cards for sale at gen con single or deck wise would be a huge plus for people who need the newer cards and for people that need them for the tourneys for that weekend .
I am amped about the mention of faction decks though , thats going to be awesome ! will they be regular cards or something a bit more high end .
