Okay, I admit it. That title was supposed to draw you in.

Normal disclaimer: I apologize if it's already been answered, etc.

The Rule in Question:

I noticed in the new rules manual under the replacement rules that it states something along the lines of (I'm away from my book ATM): "When a single model replaces multiple models it gains all of their general AP." It really doesn't delve further. It gets pretty specific about multiple models replacing a single model, but not vice versa.

The Situation:

I played against Leveticus last night. He has Steampunk Abominations. Four combine to form the Desolation Engine (And I'll form the head!). They each have 2AP in and of themselves. There are three unactivated Abominations; The fourth activates and uses it's first AP to turn the group into the Engine.

The Real Question:

Three unactivated models have a total of 6AP between them. The last used just one to make the Replacement. Together they have 7AP remaining. The Desolation Engine would 'get all of their general AP', as well as it's Melee Expert. This would total 8AP.

I am not disputing the Melee Expert. My opinion is the the Desolation Engine should not be allowed to go over 2 General AP.

Rules as Written: Hmmm...

Rules as Intended: Hell no.

Opinions? Links to rulings?

They actually talk about this here:

Here is the relevant quote though:

When the Arachnids Swarm Together only one model is currently activated, therefore there is only one set of AP to consider (that model's). The other models may not have activated yet, so at the time they Swarm Together they don't have any AP to add (you get your 2 AP when you activate).

The reason there's an (s) on model(s) in the Manual is the same holds true for a model that is Replaced by multiple models. Those models finish activating with the AP the replaced model had remaining (say one model with one AP remaining splits into two models, they both continue with one AP).

It's not sinister, just folks seeing that unactivated models have a potential for 2 AP and assume they add it in.

In your example, the Desolation engine would actually only get 1 general AP and then their Melee Expert AP. Still though, that can be a decent amount with the Desolation Engine. :tongue2:

Shame, Satyrwyld, shame! That would have been one less dead Alp on my side! ;)

Anywho, this seems pretty resolved. Nothing more to see here! Thanks all!
