Nico casts Decay on a friendly Canine with only 1 Wd left that is also within 12" of Pandora. The Wp Duel is lost during step 3 of the Casting Sequence. So what happens next?

a) The damage from Emotional Trauma is also during step 3 and the model is killed before the spell effects can be applied. The Canine is neither healed nor can any :blast be placed, cause the model is removed from the table before step 4 of the Casting Sequence is reached.

b) The damage from Emotional Trauma is dealt during the Apply Spell Effects Step of the Casting Sequence, therefore the Canine can be healed, it does not die and the :blast can be placed.

c) something different?

my guess would be 'a.'

My understand is that Pandora's ability would interrupt the spell. You would finish all that entails (which includes removing the model) before moving on to the effect of the spell. I'm not sure if the blast would be placed or not though. Does the placing of the blast require the target? If the spell got off, it might not require the target to still be there after the interruption.

Or there's the part where I'm all crazy and don't know what I'm talking about o.0

yes it's a) as if a spell is interrupted the interrupting effect is resolved first and then the original effect continues. As there is no model left for it to act on it just fizzles. Or at least that's how I would interpret it

Runs like this...

Nicodem casts decay on canine remains,

canine remains fails wp within 12" of Pandora, causing remains to suffer 1 wd prior to completion of spell.

Spell succeeds cast but no longer has valid target as canine remains is no longer in play, so spell fizzles.

Sum... One very dead doggie
