Hi there, I'm fairly new to playing malifaux, started over the christmas break, though I've watched lots of games at my local gaming club before that. I'm building up a Lady Justice list as well as a Leviticus and Seamus in the works and I'm after a bit of advice and critique on my current list, I.am planning to expand the available minis with Nino, another Austringer and the Hoffman box set when that is released in March.

35ss list
Lady Justice
3 Death Marshalls 12ss
Peacekeeper 9ss
Guild Austringer 5ss
Governors Proxy 2ss
Judge 7ss
Cache 4ss

Other minis currently available are 2 Guild Guard and an Executioner.

I'm after a reasonably balanced list for a mix of friendly and tournament level games.

Thanks

I prefer the Executioner and larger ss cache. And Nino instead of Judge. I do confess I have never played with the peacekeeper.

I was using the executioner and a larger cache before now, he's good but a little slow at times until he gets into melee range, that's why I want to give the Peacekeeper a go for the faster movement, combined with melee and shooting potential.

At 35SS I always take the Executioner over the peacekeeper. That thing is an absoloute beast when it gets into melee range. Slow to Die with executioner blades will always leave your opponent with a WTF no way that is soo broken look!

Personally I'd drop Judge for another Austringer and 2SS extra for LJ.

But then I do love the Austringers.

Best way to use the executioner is with a totem preferably Governor Proxy and use her ability to give him melee expert, this makes it so he is not so slow, giving him an effective threat range of 10 in. Once he closes the distance he is a beast. Hard to miss with him and when he hits it hurts.

Played a game last night swaping out the judge and the governors proxy for 2 Guild Guard. The Peacekeeper did very well, but i think the judge will go for the executioner now, as while the extra bodies were great they didnt have the punch especially after LJ got taken out and the Peacekeeper was fending off LCB and a teddy on my treasure marker, ultimately to his demise but he took out the teddy at least.

35ss list
Lady Justice
3 Death Marshalls 12ss
Peacekeeper 9ss
Guild Austringer 5ss
Governors Proxy 2ss
Executioner 7ss
Cache 4ss

That is pretty much the list I use. Iswapped the Judge out mainly because of what has been stated before about it and the fact i hate the model with a firey passion.

I'd drop the peacekeeper for the Execitioner as well... You need the extra SS for Lady J so when she is attacked she can always burn one to heal or flip again to defeat the attack. I won't take less than 6ss with the Lady.

You could also drop a Death Marshal and add a watcher as well so you can have some card control and also the watcher is great at getting where it needs to go at the end of the game with it's 7" move.

I'm planning on adding the watcher as well as the rest of the new guild constructs when the hoffman box set comes out at the end of march, but will dig through my bitz boxes and try and come up with a good proxy to test it out before then.
Hopefully will have a game (against either Ortegas or Freikorps or something else depending on who's at our LGS) next tuesday to test things out.

To be honest I've found running 2 watchers and the scales of justice a really good way to stack the deck to get the cards you want!

I don't have the scales yet, but I will definately give the 2 watcher and scales combo a try out, especially in larger games.

Is it really worth the effort? Seems like a fair number of points and actions spent on something that may help a duel or two but otherwise are not being used to actively earn VPs.

Though having said that I'm the first to admit I still haven't excelled at some of the more subtle synergies of the game. Heck, I've only recently really stopped playing in more of a warhammer mode.

I do like the Scales and use him frequently.

I'm the same in that regard, it was only in my last game where I really focused on the objectives rather than kill em all. Just picked up the Scales and Nino so will see how they go against the Ortegas next week, not had much need for the proxy, will probably just use him against masters with lots of WP based attacks and manipulation.

I find that with Perdita I use her totem all the time, but I find when I play Justice that the scales become wasted points. Once the meat of the game is underway I find I need to leave the scales to activate last as I need to activate all the models in the middle of the fray to insure they don't die or do as much damage as possible.

scale works best with firing line that needs to shoot a master who require a duel first like Kirai and Pandora. Or minions like Lilitu. Otherwise governor proxy works better. Watcher deck stack is a waste of a lot of activation.

This doesn't mean watchers are bad. They actually rock in complete strategy that require more mobility like line in the sand. They also work well in protecting a group stuck combat with terrifying like teddy.

I think I would find more use with the Scales in a Brawls where I have more shooting added in, I find that with just Lady J I can't see a time when the scales are better then just having the 2 extra SS's

Guess you never had to shoot at Pandora or Kirai believe me scales is helpful against them. Tip scales and use blind justice you got a crew that can now blast pandora without her running away.

I have used the Watcher and Scales as a delaying tactic so you activate them first so then your able to force your opponent to go first around the start of the game.

Also your then getting the bad cards out of your hand as well. Even 1 watcher and the Scales isn't a waste from what I've done before and if you have a game where your getting corners or some other objective the watcher with his move of 7 is fantastic!

I agree watcher is a great model almost all strategies I will fit him in but his card tricks will waste the mobility I brought him for and 2 is a lot of ss without dmg output which helps complete and deny strategies.

I will say that the Watcher will be nice to have in my Perdita crew any time I flip Reconoiter. I hate attempting that Strategy with Perdita becuase I find I can't spread the crew up and still play them well (though that could be me lol). Somthing quick that I can move to a quarter and not deminish the effectiveness of the main crew itself I think I will definatly try out a few times.

Well I had a better game recently with the following list. Lady Justice, Peacekeeper, Executioner, Nino and 3 Death Marshals.
It gave me a nicee balance of combat and mid range shooting with Nino for long range sniping. I bought the scales too but have yet to try them out until a 50ss brawl game next week. Don't know wether or not to pick up the sonnia box set before hoffman or buy more for my leviticus as I am currently sat on 61ss worth of guild.
For the brawl I'm looking at LJ, Judge, Executioner, Peacekeeper, Guild Austringer, 2 Guild Guard, 3 Death Marshalls, Nino, Scales and a cache of 7ss.

Mr. Bigglesworth

2 masters are always worth it in a brawl you get both ss cache so if you had lady j and Sonia your starting ss cache would be min 8. Sonia as your second means you got her at a coat of 6 ss in a way.

The only problem with that is I wouldn't be able to pick up sonia until I get to my lgs for the evening, so for the first brawl at least I will have to go without, I was planning to use her regular y in large games after to give fire and blast support to LJ.
