the final quality review is a look over of the finalized product, to make sure we don't end up like we were at Gencon, with a product we didn't feel measured up.
We didn't want to give a final time frame, because as we've learned with this process that unexpected delays crop up. However, the reason we're putting this up now, is because we feel like it's on the home stretch, and T-clips should be available sooner rather than later :D (is that vague enough for you?)

Awesome! And this kind of update is perfect, and really goes a long way to satisfying people in their waiting, IMO. Well done, Wyrd team.
Definitely looking forward to these. We have a pretty fair amount of terrain at our LGS already, but I'm certain we could use some of these for some more Indoor locations, for sure!

Either way, I'm psyched! I like how thinner the clips are so models shouldn't be too wobbly if they're on top of them. I would have bought a set or two of the pre-fixed stuff so I'm happy with the direction :friday:

Echo everyone's sentiment here, I'm really excited that these are finally on the horizon.
Couple of questions that I don't think have been answered yet (appologies if they have). Do we know what is actually in the packs, i.e. do you get clips or do you need to buy them separately? What area will one pack cover? 3'x3' is pretty big. The word I've had from the supplier over here (UK) is that they'll cover "a suitable playing area" which is pretty non-commital. Is the price due to change?
Maelstrom games have the listed as being released on the 29/1/11, which seems a bit punchy as the've not gone to manafacture yet. I'm thinking of pre-ordering to get them as soon as, but would like the above blanks filled in before I part with my hard earned, just so I don't get dissapointed on day one (I envisage having a foot square of card and no clips to hold it together with! :))
Thanks in advance, and I appriciate the effort and care that's gone in to making sure this product is top draw before release. Good things and all........
Cheers,
Dom

They are very much substantial and durable. The version I had my hands on at Gen Con were good, these should be thicker. Like the chipboard you get in a good board game like Carcassone or Settlers, only I think they use even less than 1.7mm.

Assuming they're sticking to the original vision (other than going from 1.5 mm to 1.7 mm cardstock), a single set $49 should cover approx 6 square feet or 2/3 of a game table. Each box will have 16 10"x14" punchboards of double-sided terrain and 1 connector pack containing 40 T-Clips, 40 L-Clips & 40 I-Clips. Get 2 sets and you cover a 3x3 board plus have a second layer for 1/3 of the board, either from sewers up into the streets or up into building.
All for under $100 assuming no price increase.
Looking forward to it's release!

Hmmm, for the 2/3rd of a table, 16 tiles equation to work, it means the tiles will be 6"x9". And if, as stated, the punchboards are 10"x14", that leaves plenty of room on the board for extras like walls and stuff.....Here's hoping! :)
Cheers for the info,

Regarding the grid pattern that appears to carry across the majority of Terraclip terrain, is there any concern that ninja-measuring will become a problem? If I know each square is 1 inch square, for instance, it becomes much easier to gauge charge distances, ranged attacks, etc. Just curious, was this by design?
I dont think so.
If you really want to "ninja-measure" you could premeasure any terrain pieces and distance between them before the game starts.
Thats something you do not need terraclips squaretiles for.

True enough, and I hope you're right, but Terraclips basically lay a grid over the majority of gaming surface (at least, that's the impression I get from the pics (http://www.worldworksgames.com/store/products/tc1/tcpromo3.jpg) I've seen). The potential for accurate guesstimation goes well beyond simply knowing the dimension and distance of pre-placed terrain pieces.
I love me some Terraclips and plan to purchase, but I'm curious about this particular aspect of the tiles.

I am also concerned about this. However, no one really gains an advantage. The playing field is level since both players can easily see the grid. I think the beauty, versatility, and sturdiness of this product will far outweigh any concerns over that.
Ratty
02-05-2011, 11:53 AM
I think if anything it's more likely to level the playing field a bit. I know that after wargaming for about 20 years I can judge distances without the grid almost spot on. However a newer player can't do this, so it removes some of my advantage. TBH I think who wins should be down to tactics rather than which player can judge distances better.
aka_hazard
02-05-2011, 12:05 PM
Experience doesn't always count, I've wargamed for a while and I'm still useless at gauging distances.
It's one of the many reasons I enjoy Flames of War where pre-measuring and stating intent are the norm.
TBH I think who wins should be down to tactics rather than which player can judge distances better.
Quoted for truth.

Quoted for ... additional truthiness? I dunno.
Anywho, I agree. Clever use of models and their unique abilities will win games moreso than eyeballing the difference between 1/2 inch and 3/4 inch.
It was more a question of whether this was by design and, I suppose, if the grid is a vague indication of Malifaux (maybe, possibly) moving toward a system of pre-measuring.
loganproudbeard
02-06-2011, 11:48 AM
i hope they dont go to pre measure, i like the way it flows as it is now.
really think the grid system isnt going to effect the way the game is played

Maelstrom have a clock ticker counting down to the release of new products. It said 103 days from today until the release of Streets of Malifaux, indicating end of June
Don't know whether that is accurate or not, probably an optimistic estimate.

Just to be clear, WWG made no mention of an August release date. That may have been a comment from the initial reveal at last years GenCon, when we had a different view of where we stood with manufacturing.
Very excited to share details when it's appropriate though!!!
Keep up the good work. We want it bad, but It's worth waiting for the best possible product. This design could be so incredibly useful for the "portable" venues such as the university crowd I work with. Very excited!
