View Full Version : Wyrd Painting Contest: Femme Fatale II

Nathan Caroland
01-13-2007, 11:57 PM
With the new year well on its way its time to start up another Wyrd Painting Contest. As with all the Wyrd contests this one is themed as well and we bring back our most popular theme of all. Without further preamble, I'm happy to announce the 'Wyrd Painting Contest - Femme Fatale II!'

For the seductive, irresistible and ultimately dangerous ladies. The only requirement here is that the ladies look good and are dangerous. Any weapon toting, spell wielding woman that can take your breath away, literally, will do just fine!

The categories for the contest are:

ALTERNATIVE: The lovely ladies that just don't seem to fit in to any other categories. This can be gun toting cowgirls, chainsaw wielding cheerleaders or any number of other miniatures that we haven't thought of.

DEADLY DUEL: A diorama with two or more combatants locked in combat or something equally disturbing. Atleast one miniature must be female.

FANTASY: Sword wielding barbarians, harem guards or lovely lasses ready to put a charm on you. If the miniature is pure fantasy, this is her category.

SCI-FI: Gun toting ladies of the deadly future or weapon wielding aliens dancing a song of death or perhaps a steampunk lady of the night. A wide range of miniatures will fit nicely into this category.

SIMPLY SCANDALOUS: Ladies that have for one reason or another forgone clothing and have decided to share their charms with us. Also, with the number of talented painters in the community, ladies who's clothing has been painted sheer so as to see through it will be placed within here. I expect this will be a large category!

Once again we have been quite fortunate with the sponsors that have chosen to provide support packages for the contest. Thank you very much for your time and efforts and I encourage everyone to let them know your appreciation! Links to their websites can be found on the front page and soon in the contest forum along with their prize packages. Make certain to look out for the Manufacturer Awards that individual companies may provide.

The specific rules for the contest can be found on the Wyrd Miniatures website on the forums under 'Wyrd Painting Contest: Rules and Information' (http://wyrd-games.net/showthread.php?t=450) as well as questions and answers that have arrisen in the past which may be of some help to you.

The contest will run from January 15th to February 25th and during that time competition entries can be submitted. At the close of the contest, voting will commence for one week where you will be allowed to vote anonymously through the Wyrd forum software as well as leave comments and critique which we have found our previous entrants have greatly enjoyed. After the voting, announcements will be made and prizes sent to the winners, along with the random prizes that we give away with every contest.

In order to participate in the contest you must create an account on the Wyrd Miniatures website in order to submit an entry and to vote in the polls which will decide the winners of the contest. You are encouraged to enjoy the forums and participate, but it is NOT required in any fashion in order to enjoy the Wyrd Painting Contest.

Wyrd staff CAN enter the contest and have a chance to win.

When participating in the competition, you must submit a miniature that is in line with the current THEME that is being hosted. The miniature can be from any miniature manufacturer. Conversions are both allowed and encouraged.

All submissions must be yours alone, no passing off of someone else's work as your own. You CAN submit a miniature that someone else has converted or sculpted for you though - just not painted, based .. etc.

You are allowed to submit MULTIPLE entries to the contest. As many as you can paint, you can submit.

The miniature cannot have been displayed in any form elsewhere on the internet or published mediums such as magazines. ALL entries must be new unseen paint jobs! All contest entries will be displayed anonymously to prevent unfair advantages based on name (this isn't a popularity contest) and thus there can be no signatures or watermarks upon any entries. No announcing on forums, webpage, blogs or any other type of medium about the type of miniature that you will be painting, nor concept sketches.

When photographing and editing your pictures, please submit them in .JPG (JPEG) format, with a file size of no larger than 250k. Photographs can be no larger than 800 pixels wide. I'm not much worried about length as it will allow you to fit in angles of the photograph. If you send me a photograph that doesn't fall within the limits prescribed above, it will be deleted. Due to the sheer number of people that have entered unedited photographs in the past we will no longer do any editing for you. There are many free photo resizing programs out there. You can find one here at http://www.irfanview.com/ Wyrd staff will attempt to notify anyone who's pictures were deleted due to size or for any reason, but can not guarantee notification.

Miniatures can be submitted at any time during the contest until voting starts. None will be showcased till the day after the final submissions date. Submissions will be accepted up till Midnight, EASTERN U.S. time, on the closing date of the currently running contest. Submissions after the cut off date will NOT be accepted, no exceptions.

In order to submit an entry for the contest, go to the current contest gallery and upload your entry. As the gallery is set for moderation, your submission will NOT show up immediately but will instead wait for me to review and edit accordingly. When submitting your contest entry, please take the time to describe the miniature and as well as any other contest notes you wish me to review before editing. DO NOT add any webpage links, mention of your name/handle, links to larger pictures or any other form of personal identification to your description. Due to the amount of pictures that contained personal information in their descriptions in the last contest, these pictures will not be edited by Wyrd staff and will be deleted. Wyrd staff will attempt to contact anyone who's entry has been deleted to let them resubmit but can not guarantee notification.

At the closing date of the contest, the submissions will be published to the proper contest gallery, anonymously, and the voting will begin.

In order to vote, you must be a registered member of the website.

A poll with your choice of winners will be presented to you where you select your favorites. While viewing the contest submissions in the gallery, you will be allowed to leave comments and critique on the entry. Please try to be constructive with these comments, as they will be published publicly once reviewed by a Moderator!

Public Voting will be open for seven days immediately after polls are posted for the contest. After the voting, announcements will be made and prizes sent to the winners, along with the random prizes that we give away with every contest.

Should there be any questions, or if anything is unclear, PLEASE take the time to ask in the forums as that is the quickest way to receive clarification on a subject as well as bring it to the attention of others.

I guess I'll have to get some new girls ASAP... the two I'm currently working on I already talked about on another forum, so I can't enter them. Well, a good reason for SHOPPING!!!!! :)

And then I have to finish her (them?) in time, but I'll try as hard as I can.

Well, it seems almost every WIP on my hobby table is a female some some sort or another. Good thing too since I just found out my primer spray has nearly kicked it and is spraying "splattery" now. Off to paint!

Checking in on my fathers computer as it was killing me not being able to keep up with things.

Yeah, feel free to add the information for the miniature. I'm actually going to be doing a bit of work on the galleries and hopefully will have the manufacturer and miniature info boxes setup in the next few days when I have a computer in front of me. Certain I can do it, just a matter of sitting down with the new software and getting it done.

When you go to upload your entry, put it in the category that you want and if it needs to be moved about, I'll take care of that. The gallery will be on moderation until the contest is done and finished.

Pictures say 1000 words...

Simple steps to uploading:

1. Go to main Gallery page

2. Click Upload Photos as seen in image below:
http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l236/Duende71/upload-step1.jpg

3. On the next page, use the dropdown menu to choose your category and the rest should be self-explanatory.

Uploaded just fine. The software developer for some dumbass reason didn't bother putting in a 'thank you for your upload' page. I'll see if its something I can add here in the near future.

I have one entry finished, another one is about 95% done. 2 others are already primed, but so far unpainted.
If I can manage it, I have an idea for a 5th.

No pics taken yet. That´s going to be a challenge.

I was hoping to get one entry done, which I have started to prep, but it still needs some GS work and such before I even get to the painting stage, and I've got some commissions starting to roll in, so I'm not sure I'll even get to that one. :-< Some of the commissions might be enterable, but I suspect those that are femme may not be fatale enough.

Look at the different categories. A few are quite open themewise so you might be able to fit your commissions in ;). (I didn't name the categories specifically just to avoid any rule breaches).

With the new changes to the voting system I feel a lot more comfortable entering this time around. So I'm actually working on two pieces. One is down to needing a bit of touch up and some base work. The other I'm not sure. It's been start, but we'll see if I have time to actually finish it.

I'm kind of in the same camp as Thryth: nothing done. I don't even have anything started. Don't think I'll be entering this short of a vacation from work or something.

I have an entry in but I have another i could enter finished about 5 minutes ago... if it wasn't so that I am gonna enter it in a competition sunday (not an online one). I don't think anyone from the forum will be there (save Ming-Hua) but there might be picture taking and putting stuff online before the voting on Wyrd FF2 is over. So with that it will likely break the anonimous rule (and i won't find out if it will before the Wyrd deadline has come and gone).

I have another i painted for a competition in March (again not online) which would fit the bill for Wyrd FF2. I could enter that one but I'm not sure if I should. Doesn't photograph to well so i might just keep it for the convention competition alone.

I say "negative One": While preparing for FF, Eric stripped a mini and has not yet repainted it.

Only one entry from me this time around, and a sub-par one too, even for my standards :( I am nearly too embarrased to post it, but I'll do it anyway. I was going for two entries but could not manage to keep Sophie in one piece... interestingly it was the base that constantly broke off, not the wings.

I'm in the process of editing photos and moving things around so all of you will be getting e-mails saying they have been approved and ready for viewing. Technically, yup, they are, but no, no one can view them as I have them all hidden at the moment as I finish up the editing. It might very well take me into tomorrow to finish this up.

Soon as they are done, I'll open the gallery to viewing, leave everything up for a day so folks can eyeball them to see if everything is alright or if anything is missing or if someone has forgotten the 'anonymous' bit for the contest and then the polls will be put up for a week.
