ok, so I'm so excited, I walked into Ikea today and found the best display cabinets!! and for like 20$ why hadn't I known about these before?!?!!! I got 4...although I can barely fill up one. I just put them all up around my desk, now I need to paint more!

Geez, for $20 each I don't blame you, I'd do the same..........although my lovely wife would have something to say about it, but hey, ya get that.
Nice find Eric, I might just have to nip down to our local Ikea and see what they have.

I've been contemplating getting a couple of those myself. Do you happen to know if they've got them in white?

Man, I love IKEA! It's a sort of hate-filled love, but you just gotte love em'.

IKEA is every miniature lover's best friend when it comes to cabinets :).

I've got a 4 level one. The top 3 are for minis and the bottom one is for various liquors for when friends are over :P.

@Anders : the color of the cabinet would depend on what they got in their catalog this year. But IKEA usually does furniture in wood or white (I've seen some pale green things ... aweful :P).

@Cédric
I wouldn't mind a wooden one, but I don't think my gf would let me hang something like that in our work room where every other piece of furniture is white. :tongue2:

IKEA does come up with strange colours sometimes. I remember a few years ago when they made silver coated book shelves.

Ikea Rocks! I may try to get the misses to let me get one or two of those myself. :five:

ok, important note on these, make sure to wash the front glass really well before putting it together, once you have it up on the wall, it's virtually impossible to clean the back side of the forward sliding glass door on them (stupid finger prints) :censored:

Umm, I have a cabinet like that, only bigger (it has legs and sits on the floor) but you remove the doors for cleaning lifting the doors up and out. Just gotta be careful not to drop them since you have to handle them by the edges, but easy to clean otherwise.

No IKEA stores near me though. Only around Pittsburgh, Philly, Baltimore, and DC. I suppose it doesn't help I live in the middle of nowhere.

Nope, we must have very different cabinets, there is no way to get the doors out of this one short of taking one of the sides off it, I did realize I could get it off the wall with some effort, so I was able to clean it finally going in from the back (I'm just glad I didn't tack on the wooden backing piece! :)

Most likely.., my cabinet I got from my mother, who got it before I was even born, so it's .....old. The doors have been replaced a few times to my knowledge, due to various "accidents" over the years.

My own wall-hanging mini cabinet has hinged doors and I got it at a yard sale for $5. Good deal!

Do you remember what Ikea name they gave these cabinets? I can't seem to find them in their online catalogue. Probably they just aren't there, but I figured it's worth asking. I'm unfortunately hours away from a physical store.

Wren, I think spacemunkie got it right, I believe it is on their website somewhere, I did see it there, however I believe it's marked as an "no mail order" item. Probably due to problems with breaking glass.

Thanks, I was able to find it on the site now. I'll have to see if I can order one after I check the budget. (And then see if they're willing to send it.) Thanks again!

I had some relatives who were coming to visit pick me up a pair of these, and I got them assembled and hung a little while ago. They're very nice, I think my minis look great in them! They'd be even better with lights, but I'm not that ambitious as yet.

Not bad at all! Looking into setting up a display cabinet proper in the house now with some subdued lighting very soon to display all these Wyrd miniatures that are painted up so nicely along with some other neat ones.

EricJ

yeah, I really like them, although I have like 4, and only use 1, the rest are sitting in the back of the closet. I just don't have enough painted minis sitting around anymore!

I have a 4 level display cabinate in my living room and recently I'm running out of space with only the 1st level available for my minis. The other levels are filled with ermm...stuffed toys and such. There's also 2 air pistol with a bronze medal I got from a shooting contest and loads of items to do with cow/bull (avoids the mention of Hello kitty).

I'm considering getting a new smaller one and Ikea sure is my top choice for their price and look.

yeah, yeah, I know! Although happily I picked up a brush and painted for a few hours last night for the first time in about a month...on the down side it's a long term project and I got half of one thigh done...

I'd consider sending cabinets to the needy just to get rid of them, but they're so heavy I bet shipping costs would be more than the value of the thing!

Yeah, the jarnas are surprisingly sturdy and heavy for an Ikea product. I wish the numerous bookcases I had from them were half as buff!

Durn! I finally decided to get 1 or two of these, but the nearest IKEA is about a 5 hour drive....

I can order them online, but the shipping is 27 bucks!

I have a set of that small shelf - it does look nice, but for painted stuff my parents got me a pair of glass cabinets, because they've got that parent's pride in my paint work , they're large, somewhat fragile (they're glass cabinets, after all), but they come with a small light fixture.

found them online here:

$19.99 over there but £25 here! (Thats about $50!)

http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?topcategoryId=15561&catalogId=10103&storeId=7&productId=47149&langId=-20&categoryId=15645&chosenPartNumber=10071412

Around here it's €29,= which is about $35,= or £18,=

Linkie (http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?topcategoryId=15561&catalogId=10103&storeId=9&productId=47149&langId=-22&categoryId=15645&chosenPartNumber=10071412)

I've seen it in real life and because of its size, I can use it quite well as a display for my single mini's as it's not big enough for even a Warmachine or Hordes battlegroup..

But as said, for an even better effect you do need to build in a light of some sort..
