http://www.wyrd-games.net/showthread.php?t=1173
The only changes are the DEADLINE, which is
SATURDAY NOVEMBER 25th, 6 PM Central Standard Time (iowa time look it up!)
The Matchups are as Follows: (randomly chosen by my daughter)
LavronYor VS. Wren
Beelzebrush vs. Stupid Cow
The theme was randomly drawn, from my original list of 15 themes.
The theme (drum roll please) is
RAGE/ANGER
How you interpret the theme is really up to you, but its all about pleasing the judges. Good luck to you four!!
The 4th round of the Iron Painter 2 begins.....
NOW!

This is going to be interesting! ;)
I've got a great figure in mind for this, possibly two, though I can also think of more scenic ways to convey the theme, so now I'm going to have to think a bit...

This is a very odd round already, since this is not a specific TECHNIQUE, but rather a mood you will have to achieve.
It seems to be miniature choice will have a huge impact on it.
The more I think about it, the harder this one is going to be, both to actually do and to judge.
Good thing I just observe. lol
lol. Yeah, I think you're right. I think I've got a fairly good idea in mind, but I'm not sure I want to show in-progress shots for this one, since choice of miniature alone is going to be a big part of things. Also I'm wondering if the impact of a mood is more likely to get lessened by seeing step-by-step behind the curtain sort of thing. (Last mini I didn't post any WIP just because I was too pressed for time to take, edit and post photos along the way.)

Let me point out now, so that all are aware of it... Simply chosing a suitable mini and giving it an ordinary paintjob will not give you very high theme points from me. You will need to enhance the effect of rage/anger somehow.

Man, this theme really Pi$$e$ me off. Wren, what was your not so good idea? I guess that since Privateer Press' Hordes game uses Rage points, there might be something there. Man, I would hate to have to do a self portrait.
Beel, you smell burning beef? I think I smell petit Cornish Game Hens ( aka Wrens)
I don't think you smell anything burning over here, other than the oils of creative industry. My only problem with this theme is too many ideas! ;-> I have now dispensed with the first idea as insufficiently challenging, and moved on to another...
So far today I have produced a square AND a rectangle. Oh, and I have also ordered something that may not arrive in time. Try and rival that progress Lavron! ;->

Here's a suggestion:

In case no one gets it, this is Ben Stiller in "Mystery Men" where he played the character "Mr. Furious" whose super power was the ability to get really REALLY angry.
I posted this as a joke. I know what I would do if I were still in the contest, and I may do it anyway, just because it would be sure to make some people angry

Then again, Supevike did misspell both my name and Beelz in the first post of this thread and as we all know, he never does anything without meaning. Still, maybe it was just to motivate us for this category. Hmmm.......

In the Queen song Bohemian Rhapsody, one line says
Beelzebrush has a devil put aside for meeee, for meeee, for meeeee!!!
Actually, I think it is a painterly play on words, since Beelzebub is the correct lyric and Beelzebub is one of the many names of Satan in the old testament. I think it means one of Beel's lesser devils, much like Mephistopheles, Mammon and Asmodeus.
Now, someone more religious than I, can correct me.

I've started mine.... it's a real cow too (pun intended :D)... I wish I'd left off the bits I had to stick on. I need to invent an articulated brush grrr!
It's definitely 'a need to know' basis mini atm too :D
I've started sharpening the steak knives though. Can't wait for a bit of beelze-grilled beef lol!
I've got my previously mentioned square and rectangle fastened together, prepped and primed, so my main scenic element is underway, sort of. I was hoping to get some actual paint on it today, but between installations, power shortages and other interruptions, I don't think it's going to happen, as it's only a couple of hours before it's time to drive out to board game night.
The main figure I've been putting off a little. I ordered something online, and I'm giving it another day or two to arrive so I can test drive layout and such. But if it doesn't arrive soon I'll fix the figure to the base and just hope the thing I ordered fits on later.

As much as I'd like to see WIP's in the gallery, I can see how everybody would want to be a bit secretive for the semi-finals. I would hope that all of the finalists could at least keep us updated to their progess here (like Wren, thanks!) if we can't see actual pictures.
And keep up the smack talk! :vb_devil:

I was thinking of painting up a bull goring Beelze into mid air. Since the butch with the biatch is painting a cow in honor of me, I'll just give him 1/4 tons of pure rage instead.

The model rocks and totally fits in with the theme. The paintjob is very cool so far!
Go Cow! Beelzebrush is Booooooooooooo-ring ;)
lol, that would be funny. Great job on that guy's face!
I'm still debating the surprise factor (and too lazy to take pics right now), so I shall give the written update once again. The item I was waiting on in the post has arrived, and been prepped. Main guy is on his base, primed and ready to get painted. Main scenic element... painting of said is remarkably like hitting my head against a brick wall, and it's taking much, much longer just to get the base painting work done. So I shall have to do the basics, go on to the main guy, and then come back to the intended embellishments as time permits. I think my husband is guilting me into letting us get a Wii for each other for Xmas tomorrow, so anyone's guess how much time will be permitting me. ;->

I just went to Wikipedia to look up hubris (I kinda knew what it meant, but wanted to be clear) and got a kick out of the very first sentence:
"Hubris or hybris (Greek ὕβρις), according to its modern usage, is exaggerated self pride or self-confidence, often resulting in fatal retribution."
Is Beelzebrush have steak for dinner tonight? :vb_devil:
Stupidcow
11-23-2006, 10:46 PM
No steak for the butch, just rotten tomatoes.
Wren, what is your high score on your new game system? Is that the best you can do?
lol. I have to confess I did spend the day playing games and otherwise goofing off. It was my intention to spend some time painting today, but as the best plans often do... it didn't. :->
My high scores at the pack in games, the Wii Sports, are abyssmal. The system laughed at my attempts to play baseball, and my husband bested me handily at bowling. But I think the problem is just that I am too distracted by shooting insane rabbits with toilet plungers, or helping them disco dance, in Rayman. That's just not going to get old any time soon for me I don't think. But I am planning to hang up my plunger rifle and get back to the painting salt mines Friday and Saturday, so don't count me out of the running just yet! ;->
LavronYor
11-24-2006, 08:29 AM
NO, NO, you won't get a high score in the paint mines....
You can't let him beat you at bowling, and I hear the insane rabbits come out of the game system and infest your house like a wild pack of feral gobbos if you don't shoot enough of them. PLAY, PLAY, there is plenty of time to paint tomorrow.

lol, I love your entry, it's hilarious! And well done.
Hopefully I still have a shot, as I was mostly good and did a fair amount of work today. I took time out to play one game of bowling (beating hubby's score roundly, but he skilled up a little later). I'm not too worried about insane rabbits infesting my house if I fail to shoot enough of them (and I did shoot a few today...). Thanks to my slovenly housekeeping ways, the indigenous rabbit species of the house (bunnius dustiferus) grows large, wild and in abundance, and I'm sure they'll chase off the interlopers. Though I have to admit the last couple of days' painting has not gone as smoothly and trouble-free as I'd like.

Unfortunately, I've had a very torrid week... I noticed that our dog, a wonderful Airedale Terrier called Barney, was a bit off colour last week so I took him to the vet... after some tests, it turned out that the problem was serious and we've had try a course of drugs to right the problem which was serious anemia due to his immune system attacking his red blood cells. Sadly, yesterday, he died.... fortunately it was before we were at work and my son was still home. To be honest I'm pretty devastated and in pieces at the moment and it's obviously affected this round's endeavour.... BUT I'm definitely going to try and get this done... wish me luck :)

anyone buy that story?? :D

You'd think that with FEWER contestants, the judging would be quicker.

ok, I got my scores in, no more hating! :)
The interesting thing is that for technique I thought they were all VERY close in tallent, nice work everyone, although no one pulled out any real flashy results, it was all solid. also my overall opinions were very very close as well, I liked every one of them for different reasons, although again I don't know if I fell in love with any, so generally high marks for everyone.
For me, this round it really comes down to use and enhancement of theme. Can't wait to see what the other judges thought and to get a look at the results!

Basically the same for me too! There were quite small variations in my scores over the whole field. The outcome will be very exciting! :)
