I'm sorry if this thread is kind of uninteresting (I've had a couple of glasses of wine, so I'm not to be held accountable.... :240: ).

I just wanted to say that during the last couple of days I've spent around 15 hours preparing a mini for painting and I have just primed half of it. The other half still needs a couple of hours of work before priming. This has the be some kind of records, at least for me. I could have prepped and painted a mini in this time.

To my defense, this mini is slightly bigger than a normal mini and it's most likely for the Ravage Mix Open next year, unless I screw it up badly! It's a minotaur from the Ilyad games barbarian line and I have spent a lot of time making all the surfaces smooth. I also had to resculpt a big part of one of its legs (including difficult musculature and things like that) due to an extremely poor casting.

What's the longest anyone here have spent preparing a mini?

I never time myself. I've wondered how much time I spend on a mini, but it's hard to keep track when I get in mayb 1/2 hour of mini work per week.

At least, I can safely say, after having reviewed the primed upper body of the minotaur, that it's smooth as a baby's bottom. So, now I can't put the blame there if the finished mini looks like crap.

@Duende
You know those lines that goes around the mini in-plane with the tab? Those aren't supposed to be there! :D

@vince
I usually don't either, but this time, seeing as I'll paint something for a HUUUUUGE competition I wanted to keep track on how much time I spent.

preparing? or converting/sculpting?

I think I've probably spent a good 5+ hours on multi-part minis making sure everything was perfectly smooth and then the construction was perfect. Other than that, not that long unless I was converting/sculpting large parts.

This was mainly preparing, except for the badly miscast (read missing) knee and surrounding leg areas on one of the legs and a couple of other cavities.

For me it was about 45mins on a Rackham Wolfen, because i had to pin all the joints because they were to damn heavy! But thats including priming, which takes about 20mins for a few coats.

I spent a few hours swearing at putting together the massive dragon and then bending the wings, but unless I'm doing major conversion work (which really isnt the same thing in my book) I rarely spend more then half an hour to an hour.

Well... this mini is going to be as good as I can get it.... and I won't let a bad prep job ruin anything! I am aware that I might overdo some things, but rather that....
