View Full Version : TerraClips Delayed

Hey folks,
We've been swamped with our August 2010 releases as well as getting ready for Gen Con and we thought we would give you an update on TerraClips.
We've developed a great new modular chipboard terrain product with outstanding artwork, unfortunately, the early product we received is not quite up to the quality standards that Wyrd Miniatures and WorldWorksGames product is associated with and consequently we won't be releasing it on August 5th as planned and will be delaying the release until later this year as manufacturing issues are resolved.
Our apologies for the delay and we will keep you updated.

Bummers! I was going to get Streets and Buildings for one Miss Pack to add to my daughter's Ress'es, then a LCB + Rising Powers + 1 clamshell for a second Ms Pack for me...
Appreciate the call on delaying release! Don't want to do a iPhone 4-DOH! where you'll have a bunch of customers with unusable terrain (especially at $50 a pop!!!). Or rather, I don't want to have unusable terrain at $50 a pop!!!

I'm sorry to hear about the complications. A setback like this will hopefully be resolved quickly, but I'm glad to hear you are sticking with a higher level of expectation from the manufacturer. I'm planning on ordering a couple of each set when they are ready!

Sorry to see it delayed (I think it has the potential to be a ground-breaking product), but I would rather it was good and late than poor and on schedule.
I have preordered a set of Streets from Maelstrom in the UK, so will see what they say about that.

I was just about to a few times (including using their discount voucher to save even more money). Kinda glad I missed that window as I'd rather have the money in my pocket than have to wait for the goods.
Will be ordering the rulebook, puppet deck and some other miniatures but that is about it until I've painted what I have and read up on Hamelin's transformation to master.

I've had some hands on time with the initial product and even with the (unfortunately very obvious) quality flaws it's still looking gorgeous and a lot of fun to put together. When you guys get the final product you'll be ecstatic.

@Suicide: Any chance you can comment on the flaws? Also is the card like the new GW Space Hulk tiles or something different?

Not sure if I should or not. I will say that the flaws are on the manufacturers side and not due to any oversites by Wyrd or WorldWorksGames.

They were able to do a big display piece that I'm sure you'll see plenty of pictures of. The product is technically usable but the pieces are not up to quality to release.

Cool, I hope that means they are usable enough for the tourneys as sKeTCH had mentioned to me that they were going to use the TerraClips terrain for all of the official events this year.

In fact maybe it'll give an opportunity to release with the tiles and buildings some props. I have no doubts that the current intended product will be awesome when released, but I fear it won't be enough to play good Malifaux; as the pics show: empty streets/corridors, no obscuring cover beside window and door frames, it's not really enough to play balanced games I fear (if you put too many houses then the LoS are completely obstructed, not too good neither especially if playing shooty crews).
Barrels, walls and fences, hangman tree, ruined building walls, etc........ droooool.......
Best wishes to get the product as you want guys, my order is already placed!

Once you get used to it the stuff at Gencon took about 10 to 15 minutes to setup. Now the boards we setup we not that fancy. There is a lot you are going to be able to do with this once they get everything set.

As far as I know there is no official date as of yet. I think the 22nd of September is highly unlikely though.
The floor tiles are 3"x3" and 6"x6". The walls, I believe, are 2" tall and come in 3" and 6" lengths currently.
Provided that the material comes out how Wyrd and WorldWorksGames wants it to I don't think it should have any trouble supporting whatever models you can throw at it, provided you take the proper precautions with structural integrity (as in not having a 3x3 section of 6"x6" tiles with nothing supporting from underneath).
I really want a couple of sewer sets

Eric had a great interview about Rising Powers and TerraClips on the d6 Generation podcast --'episode 62 (1:09:00 start; terraclips section 1:42:26). Check it out for extra info on top of the press release.
Frustrating thing for the team is they've done everything they can this side of the ocean... Product release is now dependent on the manufacturing side. I guess the mess up was too thin board stock which then meant clips weren't fitting snug undermining structural integrity of the terrain.

I didn't listen to the interview but I thought the problem was actually the opposite. The board stock was fine but the clips were way too tight. So it made it very hard to clip anything together without damaging the stock. Plus I here getting your finger caught in the clip was painful. Someone around here called them Terror clips.
But then again its all 2nd hand knowledge since I didn't get to go to Gencon and see it in person.

im pretty sure the real mess up was that the cardstock was warping. At gencon we got to see it and the defective product was used on a few playing boards and the clips fit just find its just that the peices would warp.

I saw them at Gencon and spoke to the henchmen about them. I thought the visual was spectacular but they were warped all to hell. The card stock was too thin and the clips too tight even for that. Granted the humidity was quite high, but that is something the product needs to be able to deal with. The other catch I have is the size of the tiles. You need a lot of them just to make the floor (36 I believe). The floor tiles would be better off with at least 9" squares if not 12" ones.
What's the most recent on the availability of the terraclips? I am itching to get my hands on them.

I think this is a good move. Gamers have often complained about the decline of the local game stores - also commonly known as "brick and mortar" stores. I'm not sure if they intended it or not, but I expect that these materials will increase the subtle psychological bond between gamers and their local stores, motivating them to buy locally and support the places they play.
If nothing else they'll have to buy the Terraclips direct from the store - shipping's gonna suck!
