Hey guys,
I am painting this guy for a painting competition and I am using the Rackham paints as a test for my local store.
This is how he looks after tonight:

I wanted freaky colors because that fits excellently with the whole Rackham and Dirz thing, so I blended purple into Scaly Green into light blue. The cloak does need some touchups here and there but I started with the NMM because I got really bored after doing glaze after glaze after glaze of midtone. I am quite happy with how the NMM is going.
He needs to be finished in two weeks and in the meantime I will be posting WIPS.
Thanks for looking!
Ps. The base is from Groundforge.

Looking fantastic though the cloak can be smoother at the back. Would like to see how this guy looks when its finished.

What are the Rackham paints like? The NMM on those 'tools' is nice and gives the impression it is reflecting the robe colour.

Watching with curiosity on this one, great start though.

Update!

I've spent some hours painting today at the coolest Dutch games store (while there were 10 guys participating in the D&D day...great listening material :)) and did some more. Logically the lighting at the store was sub-optimal so I need to touch up some parts but at least I did some more work.

Updating time!
First of all, sorry for the crappy pics. My 2nd lamp broke down this week and so I did the pictures with one lamp which isn`t ideal but it shows Kayl alright.
The basic miniature is now finished. I am happy with the colors and warmth he has now (but I spotted the skull color blending into his hand on the back...which will be fixed!). Next thing to do are the big blades on the back and finally the base.
One week left...

Next week I will do a proper picture again in the following update with some better pictures.

Where's his über-cool hair-do!!! :hmmmm:

uber-cool?! I totally hated it and clipped it off and filed it away. IMO he looks much better this way than with his weird hairstalks. If he didn`t have the huge blades, I wouldn`t have done it as he will lack balance.

The hair was the reason I bought him once... I'm not too fond of the huge blades though, on the other hand. I'm thinking of losing them on mine.

The model is finished now (just in time for the painting competition...a regular one, not online), but my good lamp is broken so no pictures yet. I will see if I can make a picture tonight or tomorrow.
Anyway, I am most happy with him and he is my best paintjob so far.

Looking better as it goes. I'll like to know more about that base as in how you went about making it, if it isn't too much trouble. Thanks.

Finally finished and I am very, very happy with him. He is my best work so far and the total look and effect went the way I wanted it. The huge blades proved to be difficult because of the size but turned out to be vey cool to do. The base was way too much work for such a thing :). But all in all, I am superhappy with him.

Very nice! Good use of colors and the plynth serves as a nice display for the piece.

Looks great, especially the large blades! Too bad about his hairdo, though ;), but I guess it's just a matter of different opinion! The only thing I don't like is the green goo coming out of the pipe. It's so bright that it grabs the attention away from the mini.

WOW!
That is a really great looking paint job! The skin, NMM, and green goo look great. Especially nice NMM.
You wouldn't want to share any of the paint recipes you used for this model, would you? :)

great color scheme I like it without the hairdo also..but imagine it would have looked equally nice with them..the colors playing on the blades and the rusty feel to everything is my favorite part.

That absolutely rocks. NNM is top notch and I do like the bald look on him. I have to agree with Ritual that the bright colours of the goo and the sewage valve distracts the main model, even though it looks really cool. Thanks for the link regarding the base. Good luck on the contest.

Great looking mini! Very well done NMM. How did you like the P3's, by the way?

Looking very good. One of my favorite Rackham figs. To bad abou the haircut... though he looks good without it too. The green goo, like Ritual said distracts from the mini, BUT it does look really good. Great contrasting living colour. I agree one of the better ones I know of yours.
I really like how you've painted the goo (and the base as a whole), but I can see where some folks consider it too distracting from the main fig. Which is very nicely painted! The blades don't look quite as nice on the back view, but that's entering quibble territory. I really like your colour choices on the main figure as well as the paint work.
