So, I'm starting up a McMourning Crew. I don't have the box just a bunch of Resser figures that I've collected to use with Seamus. But now I have to many and they don't all work well with the Hatter.

So, here's what I was thinking to start with:

McMourning
Mortimer (7ss)
Nurse (5ss)
2 Necropunks (6ss)

So that's 18 pts. I also have available: Bete Noir, 2 Hanged, Crooked Men, Kiljoy, another Nurse (Belles and Sybelle but I don't want these in the crew) and Morty can make me another Necropunk.

So help me out here.

Shame you don't want Belles. They have a lot of synergy with McMourning, Luring enemies to his melee range so he doesn't need to waste that many Actions to walk. It would be a nice themed Crew if you add Canines: An animal clinic with the vet, his assistants, some patients and their former owners ;P.

Canine Remains should be a great addition for your Crew. They are dirt cheap and thus great targets for the Nurse's Massive Dose. They could also be used with Killjoy: you know they're going to get Sacrificed so why not summon Killjoy with the last Action? Same applies for Bete.

Summoning with Mortimer is a waste of time. He needs 2 Corpses and his whole activation to summon a (generally not very strong) model. He is much better digging those Corpses for McMourning to use. If you want to summon with someone besides your Master, try Sebastian instead.

Wait, ropetus, I am confused, you said he should not summon with Mortimer but summon with mortimer instead?

The key with a mcmourning crew is to get things you won't be able to summon with the doctor, so I'd avoid starting with dogs unless you want the cheap corpses, which the necropunks do just fine. Killjoy works excellent with the necropunks, and it gives your army time to get into threat range while your opponents deal with the massive death baby who's cleavering all their units. He is a major point investment, however, so you need to make him count. mortimer is good for corpse finding, not too good for summoning. It's too bad you don't want belles, because a single belle can be a godsend for a McM crew, as Ropetus said...

Brainfart... Of course I meant Sebastian.

The point about taking the Dogs is that they are cheap (2 body parts to make a dog cost exactly the same amount of SS so you can just as well buy them) and you don't want to waste your Master's Actions to summon dogs when you could summon Constructs (Sebastian can fix up their numbers when needed). They're also most useful early on when they can utilize their speed to reach areas your other model's cannot.

Dogs are cheap Corpses but they are also Graverobbers and have For You Master so you can use them to fetch Corpses to your Master. Necropunks cannot do this. Still, I think a mix of them is good for cheap models: after all, you cannot support too many Necropunks effectively as both Leap and Flurry are Control Card hungry.

The thing with McMourning is that there isn't a ton of options. You could go with the Punk Zombie/Belle combo which is pretty good. Or you can do something with Nurses and throw Bete Noir in either strategy. Either way your focus is to take some of the pressure off McMourning because he can beat the entire enemy team by himself with enough time as long as he's not focused down..

Thanks for the advice. Looks like Canine Remains are a must (either as a stating option or summoned).

One question: Can Bete Noir benefit from Massive Dose? By this I mean at the end of her activation she will be sacrificed. If she is sacrificed will she benefit from Slow to Die thus enableing her to use One with the Night?

I think the answer is: No - but I'm just sounding this out as a possible option/tactic (Stimulant and Depraved Tactics would make her a killing machine).

Slow to Die only triggers when killed. Therefore you won't get the extra Action if you're sacrificed. However, you can hit her with the buffs, wreck some havoc and then kill her yourself (a friendly backstab), which triggers Slow to Die and allows you to bury her before she gets sacrificed.

Hmmmm... That sound like it could be a viable idea.

I should also state my reasons for not wanting to use Belles in this crew:
The main reason is because I use them with Seamus. It wouldn't be worth my while a making second Resser crew if I'm just going to use the same (or similar) tactics. I want a McM crew because I like the Ressers and I want to play a different crew with different models and different tactics.

Belles are great but I want an alternative Resser crew. :thumb:

Edit-Here's the starting crew that I've come up with:

McMourning
Zombie Chihuahua (1ss)
Mortimer (7ss)
Nurse (5ss)
Bete Noir (9ss)
Canine Remains (2ss)
2 x Necropunks (6ss)

Total 30ss.
